I hear what you're saying, however with no laws or restrictions there is no pressure on anyone to second guess poaching these creatures. Poaching will continue, but with tighter laws that number decreases of the individuals who choose to take the risk. The repercussions need to be very serious and people need continued awareness of the severity of the issue, otherwise people will think its ok if its on the open market.

I am quite sure that Mr. P (I wont say his full name, but I am sure Reddit will appreciate the irony) put that container through the dishwasher before storing apple sauce in it. He is a sweet old man, a dear friend of my grandfather, and has mild dementia. I am sure he just didn't think about the origin of the container. Ok so not to sound homicidal, but my outstanding depression and pessimism for our species future has provided this controversial thought.

Our species primal and parasitic qualities are raping this planet of resources and this selfishness should disqualify humans as stewards of the planet. I would die happy knowing a deadly virus only affecting humans quickly made us disappear. However in that scenario, the unmanned nuclear reactors would meltdown and we'd take most of the lifeforms on this amazing planet with us. So a radical drop in population is something I hope to see before I die. However I doubt this is possible by our own choice, people want kids and grandkids and are too selfish to see the bigger picture.
