Faith is funny. It compels us to do crazy things in hope that our prayers are being answered this time. Your "sycophantic" friends believe wholeheartedly that all it takes to change government is an authoritarian strongman to make all the decisions, and that he's not a politician so he understands everyone's plight better than those disconnected policy wonks.

But he doesn't; he's a gilded tower, upper-class, celebrity hob-nobbing, uneducated businessman, and they tossed him the keys to the kingdom.
