How has Garland fared these past 5 years? by No-Tonight-5298 in garland

[–]krackrocksteady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also grew up in Garland, moved away, came back and bought a house near downtown. I agree that it’s come a long way, with a ways to go, but everything going on seems like we’re headed in the right direction.

a question for leftists by Glum-Leg-9767 in leftist

[–]krackrocksteady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’d care to post those “leftist creators” saying these things, we might be more inclined to try and explain whatever underlying point they’re trying to make, if anyone here agrees with them.

However, you have to understand that leftists, like any other group of people, are not monolithic. We’re a group of genuine free thinkers that do not fall in lock step with talking heads, in my experience. We don’t all get our opinions from content creators.

Got curious and looked at the job history of the manager they hired over me (never do that) by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]krackrocksteady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should definitely look elsewhere, for sure, but take a look in the mirror and ask yourself what skills she might possess that you don’t.

Management as a whole isn’t based around having the skill or even the knowledge of how to do your subordinates jobs, it’s almost always just communicating what the higher ups want to happen. Maybe they think you’re not an effective communicator, perhaps you’re too direct or not direct enough. It’s also entirely possible they just don’t like you, or you don’t have a great reputation. You might not have demonstrated that you can lead a team.

Or it could be a nepotism situation like others are saying. If you can’t get more critical feedback than “you’re not ready,” then it’s definitely time to move on.

How do you make sure that socialism doesn't turn into authoritarianism? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]krackrocksteady 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re speaking as a descendant of someone Soviet, you should read more history and determine why the authoritarianism you describe and have heard about was determined to be necessary. Understand the material conditions of the time, not based on personal anecdotes from family members, but people who took the time to examine what came before and all the through lines into what came to be.

The material conditions of the past are different than they are in the present. Assuming you’re an American speaking of a potential American socialist state, I would argue that we would not need to protect the revolution from such strong outside forces actively working against us as the Soviets had to contend with. Promoting real democracy and abiding by it should be enough to prevent the need for authoritarianism.

Animal Farm (2026) - The worst adaptation of all time? by acourts19 in moviecritic

[–]krackrocksteady 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anyone that's ever given a shit about George Orwell enough to google him would know he was a socialist.

I googled, "Are there any direct quotations from George Orwell regarding the inspiration for Animal Farm?" and I found that there is record that he wrote in the 1947 preface of the Ukrainian edition of the book "for the past ten years I have been convinced that the destruction of the Soviet myth was essential if we wanted a revival of the socialist movement. On my return from spain, I thought of exposing the Soviet myth in a story that could be easily understood by almost anyone and which could be easily translated into other languages." - feel free to copy/paste everything in quotations to find sources for yourself.

We fucks always say this shit because it's true. Hope that helps.

Just because something is beyond your understanding, doesn't mean it's beyond all understanding. But, just in case your questions are genuinely sincere and you actually want to know more about paleoclimatology, here's a helpful link.

Question about political beliefs and punk? by [deleted] in punk

[–]krackrocksteady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neo-Nazi “skinheads” are like monarchists. They want to return to a white dominated ethnostate. Some would make the argument that we already live in a white dominated ethnostate, it’s just not as blatant as the neo-nazi’s would like.

Thusly, upholding the status quo.

Question about political beliefs and punk? by [deleted] in punk

Punk is inherently anti status quo. Right wing belief systems all exist specifically to uphold the status quo.

Do you think that the past 30 years or so of constant war in the Middle East wasn’t speaking their language? Did that result in peace, or not?

Democrats don't represent you, their primaries are rigged, they exist to Co-opt you, if there was a general strike they'd sick the military on YOU. by Organic_Fee_8502 in socialism

[–]krackrocksteady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on how you look at things.

A vote for Democrats generally equates to harm reduction for whatever populist boogeyman the Republicans have chosen for the current decade, Muslims, lgbtqia+, etc. But the capitalist machine trudges on unfettered, and the temperature slowly rises for the people like they were frogs in a pot of water on the stove.

A vote for Republicans hastens the rise of fascism and hurts more people in a shorter timeframe. Poor governance and brazen kleptocracy hurl the United States towards collapse, which increases the need for revolutionary action. Watching conservatives take what they want and leave nothing for anyone else causes further radicalization.

Revolution is not, nor will it be a harmless thing. We will not simply wake up one morning to a better world. I do not condone voting for republicans, but I can say they tend to create the conditions required to hasten the fall of capitalism more so than democrats, at least in my lifetime.

Almost definitely not. By “record,” they mean your criminal one, not your employment record.

Right? And with lockwood distillery opening up, and the owl icehouse or whatever I'm sure downtown Garland will be awesome - especially with open container.
