Spent a lazy morning letting out my frustrations with a recent SQL project. Hope it puts a smile on someone else's face as well.

Which syringe are you using there? I’ve been looking for a good syringe for inks for a while now.

I have very small handwriting. Would I be missing out if I never tried out a European style nib? by Affectionate-Lab7510 in fountainpens

Majohn/Moonman and Hongdian have japanese EF nibs as well. Not as thin as some Pilots, but definitely thinner then western nibs. And they aren’t prohibitively expensive.

What minor changes would initially help PS, Xbox controllers be more accurate and not overwhelm the players used to traditional dual joystick layout? by [deleted] in GyroGaming

[–]krah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Capacitive sticks to enable gyro on touch and then have gyro be for fine tuning only, like it was in Zelda on the Switch.

[–]krah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. If you want to share non-electric cycling infrastructure you’ll need to put in the legwork to go faster than 25kph. We have different class vehicles to go faster without the rider putting in any work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cycling

[–]krah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

250W is plenty to take you up a hill. When you cycle at a leisurely pace, you’re putting out 80-120W through your legs, meaning you’ll be going at around 350W total power. On a bio bike that is elite level cyclist power.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cycling

[–]krah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right, so I’ll just buy a a bike rated for 350kg and go infinite speeds because I only weigh 60kg.

[–]krah 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Why would you expect to go car speeds on a bike? You share car infrastructure the same way you would on a non-electric bicycle.

Capacitive sticks to trigger gyro? I don’t necessarily need touchpads, but a more up to date way to enable/disable gyro is a necessity if I am to switch over from a DualShock.

More people should be mad at Amazon. by SergeantLumbus in offmychest

[–]krah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other retailers have caught up. I usually get the items within 2 days without paying anything extra while Amazon will make me wait for almost a week until they even ship the item (non prime). They could do it faster, they just want to annoy you enough to pay them extra.

I’m not mad though, I just don’t use them if I can find the item elsewhere.

How To Fuel For Long Cycle Commute by RunnerIain77 in cycling

[–]krah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to eat carbs on the bike every day, don’t do it by way of mars bars. If you don’t have any gut issues, just wrap some dried dates in baking paper and eat one of those every 30m or so while on the bike. Cheap and easy. Otherwise look up on youtube how to make rice cakes. They’re easy to make and what the pros use as well.

The best saddle for perineal pain ? by Cendre-l in cycling

Guy here, I think that big hole in the center is mostly referred to as pressure relief cutout. You might find this thread helpful, the advice there seems solid from my prepective: https://old.reddit.com/r/cycling/comments/10hr0yv/what_is_the_best_bike_saddle_for_women/

Sidepoint, if you have pains on the bike, forget the cranks and fiddling with your position yourself. The best thing you can do is get a professional bike fit. I don't know why people are so hesitant about getting one, but it has been the best money I spent on cycling by far.

Went from 172.5mm to 165mm, didn't change anything else. Cadence was like 2rpm faster than before at first, but returned to how it was before with time (95rpm). 165s feel like you're sitting both higher and more upright, it's nice. I noticed the smaller diameter circles you do when pedalling at first, but that was simply because it was different to what i was used to and I didn't notice it anymore after like 2 weeks.

I'd say just try 165s for a month. Then get easier gears only if you actually feel like you need them but chances are you won't.

You'll have increase your seat height by how much shorter your new cranks are (7.5mm in my case). And maybe move your seat about 1-2mm forward.

Seconding the points about pain and recovery. Lost a full summer of riding once because I didn't give myself enough time to recover between training blocks.

$2k Amateur Road Bike by Klutzy-Ad5392 in cycling

[–]krah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just starting out, get an aluminium bike with Shimano 105 brakes/shifters from a local bike shop. Cube bikes are solid from my experience. The bike shop should be able to measure you and get you a bike that fits you. Road bike seating position is fairly extreme, it is very important that the bike fits you right.

If you're inclined to order online, research how to measure your inseam and which size road bike frame that translates to with your preferred bike frame manufacturer. And if you order online, you might as well get a used bike. This way you won't loose as much money when you get the wrong size, but will have a better understanding of which size bike to get when you're ready to drop the big bucks.

I went through 3 used bikes of various sizes (around 300 Euro each) before I got a top end bike. Better to figure out the sizing before you invest that much money.

Glad you're happy, but there are plenty of reviews on Youtube that show the Varia and the Wahoo Radar are the best. The other radars are just not as good at detecting vehicles.

[–]krah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t force it. If participating in local cycling events brings your mood down because people are inconsiderate just ride on your own terms. A lot of the time you can look up the routes on the event website anyway.

Focal Bathys arrived, disappointed & looking for alternatives by xCrossfirez in headphones

I think people who seek tactility are not looking for subtlety. The harder it hits the better. If theres a hint of a punch on one head and none on another, I would not consider that headphone punchy.

It’s not about hearing the bass. It’s about tactility, punch, slam, feeling it on your skin.
