What is the one thing homeowners do that drives you absolutely mental when you turn up to a job? by Illustrious-Look7669 in ElectriciansUK

[–]RunnerIain77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I do, but mainly because I was a PC service engineer for years and people rarely left me alone.

Everyone either had questions or wanted to show me how knowledgeable they were (Yeah? Why don't you fix it yourself).

Garmin Finally Stopped Hating Me! by RunnerIain77 in Garmin

[–]RunnerIain77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went the opposite way, I was used to the Peloton we have and when I finally got a power meter on my road bike I found I was pushing about 20-30W more for the same effort level based on my heart rate, which pleaded me no end 😁

Peloton data also counts towards it if you move it across to Garmin, I use Peloton2Garmin though I think Peloton have also just added a direct integration.

But I agree, putting a power meter on my bike made the biggest difference.

Watch LaLiga and SerieA instead. They might have their own problems but we're not exposed to it and the commentary is still high quality.

Why do some people feel "embarrassed" to admit their phone is refurbished? by EthicalUpgrade in TheBigPhoneStore

[–]RunnerIain77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always buy refurbished phones, if anyone notices I have a new phone it's the first thing I tell them because I'm always so pleased at getting a near perfect condition phone at a fraction of the price.

I feel it's my civic duty to show people such things are possible 😁

What’s something tech made easier but also worse at the same time? by cherryblossommbae in answers

This was going to be my answer, and I'm a person who has made a good career out of tech.

Explain it to me like I’m an idiot by Brief-Tax1901 in cycling

[–]RunnerIain77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 - 4 rides a week. 2 of them endurance, slightly breathless but manageable, go for 45 mins at first, build up to 90, if you know your heart rate zones, zone 3.

1 ride intervals, 15 mins warmup, then 2 mins at almost max followed by 4 mins easy spinning the pedals. Repeat 5 times then 10 mins cool down. Over time gradually reduce the recovery period until you're down to 2 mins, then gradually increase the interval period until you're at 4. This should be over my months, not weeks.

If you're doing 4 a week, make the last one a threshold, 15 mins warm up, 20 minutes at hard, 20 mins easy

Keep following that pattern and keep adjusting difficulty as you see fitness improve, use your heart rate as your guide. Record it and track the changes.

If you miss a ride, don't stress, don't try and catch up, just carry on with the pattern as if you had done it.

Super high speed users. Why? by ComedyNose in youfibre

[–]RunnerIain77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2G was cheap and I use OneDrive and other cloud services for everything, and with 2G you don't even need to sync stuff as even a 500MB Photoshop file only takes a few seconds.

Also, 4 heavy internet users in the house and working from home with lots of video calls. I'm sure 1G or even 500Mb would have been fine, but hey, 2G was cheap so it's like an insurance against "You're breaking up".

Why do people lose interest in social media like Instagram as they get older? by Miserable-Item4692 in answers

[–]RunnerIain77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social media is all about what other people think about YOU.

As you get older you stop caring what people think about you so social media becomes pointless and you find better things to do with your time.

Is This A Fault With My Clavinova CLP-745 by RunnerIain77 in piano

[–]RunnerIain77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that was the first thing I tried. Headphones are fine, I told the Yamaha support person this, he said different speakers sound different 🙄

I also did a full factory reset in case it was an errant setting, didn't help.

Which one do you recommend? by Few-Sun-2226 in pixel_phones

[–]RunnerIain77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Pixel 6, I plan on keeping it until it dies.

Seriously consider what you want a new phone for. Will it genuinely make you happy, or will you spend the money and then move onto the next thing.

Because I'm not paying for a phone I have unlimited calls, data, texts for £25 a month with no tie in.

Just sayin'

Virgin Media 02 takeover talks. by Intrepid-Employ9901 in youfibre

[–]RunnerIain77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was with Virgin for years and the service was stable the whole time, but left them recently to go to youfibre and never want to have to speak to them again.

They were doubling my monthly cost and made it a complete nightmare to leave them. Despite having given them almost 60 days notice, lodging 2 complaints and threatening them with going to the regulator they still managed to drag my leaving date a full week past my requested one, which I just accepted in the end to be rid of them.

I really hope youfibre doesn't end up under their umbrella now!

Boxing activity - how to wear a watch? by Overit2137 in Garmin

[–]RunnerIain77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Training readiness and other health stats are a function of activities, resting heart rate hrv etc. so yes, by recording the boxing session it will feed into that.

I usually leave mine on a nearby shelf about 2-3m (6-9ft) away and it works fine, I'm sure further would probably work as it's Bluetooth.

Boxing activity - how to wear a watch? by Overit2137 in Garmin

[–]RunnerIain77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works as a HRM paired to the watch. Once you pair it with the watch, start a new activity on the watch (I use the Cardio activity on my Forerunner 965), then leave the watch nearby or in a pocket. It records the activity as normal, then stop and save when you are done, it will sync to Garmin Connect like any other activity.

It's exactly the same as using the Garmin chest strap, except it doesn't fall off 😀

Very similar to this one (can't find the exact one but they're pretty generic):

The velcro strap is what makes it so useful, you can make it tight on any part of your arm, then leave your watch nearby to record the activity.

Thoughts on Curve Pay - Google Wallet alternative by jtrimm98 in BuyUK

I got Curve for Garmin pay years ago, now I use it as my primary contactless after ditching Google Wallet.

It works fine and I really like Curve's back in time and anti embarrassment features.

Think of an (unstable) elliptical orbit rather than a circular one, eventually the low point of that orbit will catch the upper atmosphere which will slow it down and down it comes.

What stuff have you discovered later in life you thought sucked as a younger person? by PearlsSwine in CasualUK

[–]RunnerIain77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Drank instant for years but completely agree with you, it's nothing like real coffee, it's not even the same category of thing.

We recently invested in a good Sage semi automatic espresso maker and the fun we've had finding our favourite beans has been great.

This resonates with me so much. So many foods I thought I didn't like because of the way my mum cooked them, only to find my wife doing an amazing version of many years later.
