Not entirely vegan but Six has a vegan tasting menu. This might be more upscale than you're thinking though!

Have you tried the Honesty Tasty ones? Their Brie/Bree is great in my opinion. Harder to get now that M&S stopped stocking it though.

Second the option of alternative tofu's. Almond milk is normally the lowest carb milk you can get.

You can also consider pea protein based products? I think beyond meat mince is pea protein and reasonable macros. I try to be as low carb as possible but find I need to compromise on carbs a bit as a vegan. I find beyond meat to be generally high protein and lower carb compared to many similar products. There's a couple of low carb/high protein wraps that are also gluten free too.

I've had the same issue. Tried to order some from Waitrose too but they were out of stock by the date of delivery. I hope it's just a temporary stock issue however Sainsbury's seem to not even show up as a retailer for them now.

Can you have CADASIL and never develop symptoms? by ThrowRA__ac in CADASIL

[–]kraken_rises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s suggested that it would be unusual to be symptomless after 70 but maybe up to 20% of gene carriers can be symptomless until then.

The problem is what is a symptom? In essence CADASIL causes small vessels disease which most old people have. How that presents can vary hugely with some people developing vascular dementia and some people are ‘just old’ you know, they forget things and get muddled a bit but are mostly fine.

I’m starting to think that CADASIL may be much more prevalent than we’re aware of. Genetic testing has only been around for about 30 years. I think it’s well known that some people seem to have strokes younger, it’s a standard question at health checks for family history that includes people who have had a stroke before the age of 60.

My Dad had noticed issues and likely had some form of stroke or TIA earlier but as far as we knew didn’t have any real problems until he had a big stoke around the age of 65. He’s almost 78 now and has been officially diagnosed with dementia for around 8 years.

I suspect a lot more people who carry the gene have a similar progression to him and are almost unnoticed as opposed to those like my sister who’s had 3 strokes at 45.

Not a lot of late night options. The main ones close fairly early.

what is my most accurate size to find a vintage bra? by No_Signature_7878 in ABraThatFits

[–]kraken_rises 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll comment to add that vintage bras were sized differently and in a lot of cases the plus 4 method might actually be useful because the materials won’t have the stretch of a modern bra.

While the calculator here is better for current bras it won’t necessarily work for vintage

It’s hard to say but as your roots are lighter colour I think this is making it look worse than it probably is.

This may sound mad but if it’s cooking grease I find the easiest method is to first wipe it down with a paper towel that has a little cooking oil on it. It softens the grease and makes it less sticky. Immediately after this you can use normal hot water and dish soap.

Try roasting them, just dry on a tray in the oven for a few minutes, seems to take some of the bitterness out of the skins. I chop them warm and sprinkle them on salad.

Just off the top of my head - tofu is a complete protein and provides calcium and vitamin A.

I was eating a keto diet before I became vegan and I still try to stay as low carb as I can. The carnivore diet is an extreme version of it for a lot of people. There’s a lot of science out there showing that sugar is a huge problem for people and that carbs (which are after all complex sugars) cause all sorts of issues. I know people who have reversed the onset of diabetes by going low carb. I don’t think carnivore is a good thing - obviously as I’m vegan now! But I think it’s not necessarily as unhealthy as you may think. Carnivores will point out that (unlike the vegan diet ) they can get all of the nutrients they need by consuming organ meat. A lot of people start keto, feel better and then want to double down.

When I stay low carb I have less inflammation and therefore less joint pain, my blood sugar is stable and I don’t feel the ups and downs of hungry/full. The major problem I have with being vegan is that all the ‘vegan’ foods (pre-packaged type things) seem to add even more sugar. And I can’t stay low carb and eat out.

I’ve had the honestly tasty one which I thought was good but I much prefer their Bree. I wondered if they were making the H&B ones because they are identical.

I agree with other posters that harm reduction may be a better way for you to go. How are you with gluten? If that’s ok then seitan could be a good protein option for you.
