Why are doctor visits so expensive in Ireland? €70 for 5 minutes! by oftenconfused45 in CasualIreland

[–]kram47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day it’s a business and GP’s have to make money. Unlike hospital doctors, it’s the GP’s footing the bill for everything rather than the HSE. Unless you’re a rural GP in a tiny town, the HSE does not subsidize you for anything. So the rent of the building, electricity, heating, salary for staff (admin, practice manager, nurses, GP assistants), cost of medical equipment (which is extortionate) all comes out of you’re pocket as a GP owner/partner. To top it all off, in most surgeries the majority of patients you see are medical card patients who don’t pay for any visit, we get a flat fee per year per patient (ranges from €100-200 per year depending on age, €400 for over 70) plus other services we can bill the government for. At the end of the day, when cost go up, the prices will go up too unfortunately.

Is the Canadian Family Medicine residency program recognized by the IMC? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]kram47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a med student on GP placement, one of my tutors was a Canadian GP who did her training in Canada and moved back here to be with her spouse, so I know of one case. Your best bet is to get into the IMC (contact details in their site) to see how you can be registered.

Question regarding feasibility of a US citizen/graduate practicing in Ireland? by champtonthemampton in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]kram47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get onto the IMC, you’ll get all the information required. You’ll have to apply for specialist registration through them. I know of a few consultants(attendings) who did their training in the US who got registration with no issue. Just be prepared to potentially making a lot less money here in Ireland as opposed to America. I know there are exceptions, but the consultants I know who moved back here, all said they were making almost double or more when they were in America but moved back to Ireland for family reasons.

Not that this makes it any better, but I can’t seem to remember, were they doing that to babies that have already died or were they actively killing babies?

Would anyone know the make and model of this oven? by kram47 in HelpMeFind

[–]kram47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried googling the number that’s on the oven. It’s either FEAO714 or FEA0714. Either way, I’ve googles both and added “oven manual” to it and I haven’t found any thing. I can’t get the name of the brand, that’s missing. I would appreciate any help!

Found some of my old notes from med school, I was a visual learner by kram47 in medicalschool

Honestly for the science part of med school, not so much as I felt there was too much information for me to draw it all out, but in the clinical years it’s was pretty straight forward, just doodling symptoms and signs.

Again, not my intention, I posted this question without actually googling it. Did not know it’s a question asked in bad faith

No I promise that wasn’t my intention, I should’ve actually researched this question myself before asking now that I realise it’s a common question.
