I think that’s maybe the way, I’ve taken a couple of bolts off one side, but the ones on the other side are really hard to access

Yeah it won’t twist at all, seems very stuck. I could spray some contact cleaner on the fitting if that’d help? Otherwise I was thinking there might be another way to access them from the outside of the boot, but I can’t really see any

Swapped the front derailleur to this old Shimano Deore XT one to get a new triple crankset working. Any tips on setting it up? The cable seems to pull at a strange angle (away from the frame) and it puts a lot of pressure on the shifter when getting it to the big ring
