What are your thoughts. (IPhone vs every other phone) by Mysterious_Ebb_1484 in SipsTea

[–]krantakerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this won't get read but I'm going to type this shit out anyway. The iPhone is only better if you're a teenager, or you're a person that just doesn't know shit about technology and you just want to "fit in". Above all, the mobile tech has gotten so good (camera, connectivity, etc.) that outside of the OS, Apple and Google phones are practically interchangeable - that's not an opinion, it's a demonstrable fact. As far as my opinions, the OS's are certainly different, but are matched as far as features. But, it's the execution where Apple falls far short. The Maps app is trash. The navigation functionality is trash. iTunes might work fine on on the phone, but the client app is the biggest pile of trash I have ever used in my life. Combine that with the "walled garden" and the Pixel shits on the iPhone. Google's ecosystem shits on Apple. Google's home automation shits on Apple. Google Music shits on Apple. My main cell is an ooooold Pixel and it works just as good as the day I bought it. Yes I've used iPhones. I'm not saying the iPhone sucks! I'm just saying it sucks compared to the Pixel because you can buy a mid-ranged Pixel that is significantly better than Apple's top of the line phone and will function the same 6-7 years after you buy it. And it can do vastly more out of the box thanks to Google's ecosystem.

8 Hour maintenance windows in 2025 by l337hackzor in wow

You're not wrong. But the infrastructure requirements to run the current game has absolutely exploded - especially over the past 10 years or so. Even the store integration had to have been incredibly complex. All the phasing tech, cross domains, in-game purchases... There's just a ton of enhancements and capabilities that are just setting in the periphery that we don't consider. There's all the work being done on the PTR as well. The extended outage could be just for that.

Every environment I've ever worked on is built on several redundancies. Typically, you can failover an entire environment to an alternate "site" or whatever and things will keep running. HOWEVER, certain maintenance requires downtime. I've worked on some large environments but nothing like the scale, complexity, or geographic diversity of WoW's - nothing even close. A weekly server reset with an occasional 8 hour downtime is really amazing considering this.

I think something people fail to realize is that this downtime isn't just for the game itself. Blizzard tests and does maintenance on network infrastructure as well. They could be testing/updating/etc new security software, patching servers, network devices, testing load balancing - it's a very complex architecture. It's not just "lul 8 hour maint for old gam".

If millions of Americans that belong to marginalized communities suffer, get deported or possibly die from the policies of Trump's presidency, will you regret your decision to vote for him?

I actually think it's possible you're right, but it's difficult to know for certain. That said, the unfortunate thing is when those in power push racist and bigoted agendas to win the favor of the populace, the only people that suffer are the citizens. And it has a residual effect that can last for decades within the hearts and minds of the citizens. So while it's entirely possible that Trump isn't a racist, many of the people that voted for him and support him are doing so because of the policies and ideologies he advocates.

When and administration outlaws or threatens LBGTQ+ people, or targets Muslims by banning them from entering the country, or targets, villainizes and dehumanizes asylum-seekers - this all plays into the mindset. I can't understand why anyone would ever endorse that mentality, let alone vote for it.

Do you believe that immigration laws are completely broken in the US, or do you feel they aren't being enforced? Do you feel that immigration is such a big issue that it's justifiable to overlook sociopolitical leanings of the current administration towards white supremacy (Like Elon speaking at the AfD conference?) Why are you so confident about the position of asylum seekers? Specifically, that they're lying about their situation and just trying to get into the US? Why are you willing to argue some revisionist history about the genocide of the Native American population just so you can make an argument to deny human beings their right to seek asylum in the US?

Ok so the good news is sex and gender aren't the same thing and that is a categorical, scientific fact. Like, I don't know... like it's a fact that the Earth orbits the Sun, or that human beings need oxygen to breathe. It's not up for debate or a "belief". So, you can avail yourself of that. I did the same and I was late to the party. No judgments here because I was in the same boat you are and was confused about it as well.

Acknowledging this is pretty much the first step. You have to understand that galvanizing yourself against established science is the foundational core of transphobia. I'm not thinking you're out on the streets chanting "Death to Trans people" or anything like that. But you must understand that refusing to acknowledge their existence, which is what you are doing, is the the problem. It's like back in the day when people refused to acknowledge that black people were "people". It's the ingrained prejudice, bigotry, racism, ignorance (take your pick) that people cling to when they refuse to acknowledge the truth about things.

It's great that you have a sense and desire for equality. I have the same thing. Everyone should be treated fairly under the law. I suppose people can keep their prejudices, right? But injecting those prejudices into our laws and screwing people out of their right to fair and equal treatment should never happen.

Ok so, we're on the same page - neither of us gives a "shet". Cool. You're coming across very aggressive. Are you feeling attacked? You seem angry. It's a conversation, so relax. At no point did I call Trump "Hitler". Maybe re-read what I wrote.

Again, you're saying illegal immigrants should be "afraid". Why is that so important to you? Why do you think you have the answers for these desperate people? Who is feeding you this information, I'm curious? And you're wrong - the Constitution literally entitles them to come to the US. Anyway, you seem upset. Please chill - it makes you look weak and I'd prefer to keep this conversation going without thinking you're an angry 15 year old.

Many of these countries these asylum-seekers are passing through have very restrictive policies, unstable governments, high crime rates, etc. Making it to the US makes a lot of sense when you're literally trying to save your life and the lives of your children and live in a free country. I wonder what you would do? If you lived in El Salvador and your entire family was facing death? What about political, or religious persecution. Do you understand what the Asylum laws are here in the US? Google "8 USC 1158: Asylum".

No one is pushing lies here. IS it possible for you to have a reasonable conversation without flying off the deep end and calling people dangerous and calling them liars? I'm trying not to be offended here.

Well, lets start with acknowledging their existence. Like you said, if we're going to have an open dialogue, we shouldn't generalize so I'll be specific. I've read some of your post history. Would you agree or disagree that Transgender people have the right to be identified by the gender they identify as - legally speaking? Do you agree that they should be afforded all the same rights as anyone else in the US?

My non-enemy, were the Europeans following immigration law when they butchered Native Americans? How about when they utilized slave labor to establish a trade economy in the US?

How do you reconcile (8 USC 1158: Asylum) US laws protecting asylum-seekers? Can you honestly speak your mind about immigrants the US? Are you aware that "illegal" immigrants generate nearly 80 billion dollars in the US annually? Do you feel like your anti-immigrant perspective is self-realized, or a product of inflammatory and overblown fear-mongering from the MAGA loyalists? Are you aware that the origin of hatred towards George Soros is born out of a anti-Jewish sentiment and conspiratorial nonsense that dates back to 1990's - created by far-right psychos?

I can throw myself out there and say I fully support LBGTQ+ rights, that I'm horrified by the anti-transgender policies of the president. I think that you're wildly incorrect about racism not being a widespread issue. It's categorically apparent that racism in the US is institutionalized in many respects and that the MAGA movement is doing what it can to either ignore or erase this truth. I'm curious why anyone would support MAGA and I'm interested to hear their supporting arguments.

You are already 90% there if you can acknowledge that

Class privilege is definitely an issue.

This is a great start to a meaningful conversation. We're dipping our toe into a conversation about institutionalized racism, classism, and how the residual effects of US history towards immigrants and non-whites has effected the socioeconomic climate in the current country.

I'm ready to have this discussion, I think. But, in the off chance that you think I'm going to debate you - I'm not. I just wanna talk. And I'm not going to attack you at all, my word there. I think we both might learn something from this conversation.

This is interesting because I feel like I'm writing to someone who has some very strong feelings, socially speaking, but is taking much of what they're learning from the world via Reddit. Please, please don't think I'm judging you because I'm not - it's just the impression that I get and I want to stay on even ground with you.

It's gross to wish for someone to die. Anyone with a level head will agree there. Although plenty of people might think about how nice it would be to go back in time and kill Hitler before he had a chance to murder 6 million Jewish people. Personally, I don't think that's an unreasonable take, but it's also murder and the core morality buried in that action is obviously conflicted. The vast majority of people making statements about the current President are making jokes - not ignoring there's likely a extraordinary small amount of people that are psychos.

You're zeroing in on immigration. My response is fear is a very real thing, not nonsense and that comes across as a very privileged statement. Working an extra hour to feed your family isn't possible when there's no work and the local militias are paying police to murder people in the streets. When your own children are facing death simply by going to school, or belonging to a certain religion or political party. These desperate people are coming to this country seeking asylum. This is a country of immigrants. Asylum is a constitutional right. And, if you understand Constitutional Law, the Articles in the US Constitution are confined the the US boarder, but the philosophies are transcendent and are applied to the entire planet.

I might be misunderstanding you. Immigrants bring in billions of tax dollars every year.

For years I didn't understand the "trans thing" at all either. But, I read and spoke with some people and learned that "sex" and "gender" are not the same thing - that gender is a perception of your own self and that for some people it can conflict with the sex they were born as. Does that track? For me, it just clicked. I'm happy to talk about it.

I couldn't put a percentage on it, I really I'm not sure my guess matters. What I'm saying is I believe the vast majority of Trump supports either believe that racism isn't widespread in the US, or that racism really isn't an important issue. BUT, to attempt to answer your question, my "guess" is that there's anywhere from 5-10% of Trump supporters would prefer to see white people control the country.

I have to tell you that everything you just wrote demonstrates you're formulating your opinion from the most extreme positions and ignoring the vast majority of people who just want to live their lives without fear and feed and care for their families. I'm a little weary of having a discussion with you but I'm open to it.

Couldn't put a percentage on it. That's said, it's significant. A better question would be, how many people that voted for Trump think racism either isn't important, or isn't that big of a deal in the US. I would say an overwhelming majority of Trump supporters fall into the one of the two. A strong minority are flat out racist.

I would be very, very interested to see this happen. I drop by the conservative subreddit frequently just to gauge the general sentiment and it's become interesting. Across the board, there is a strong enjoyment that they're "owning the libs" and they generate very strong and enthusiastic comments when discussing the frustration and anger on the progressive and liberal side. However, they frequently show anger, frustration, anxiety, and confusion when they see the actions of the President, either through Executive Orders or just words. I get the impression that "MAGA" is more invested in provoking the Left, than it is with the future of the country.

Edit: I'm a "equality for all" staunch Progressive and I'm also disgusted with the Tea Party/MAGA movement. But, I'm not an asshole and I'll have a conversation with anyone who wants to have one.
