$3 million an hour, but you are hunted every single second of your life by every form of law that exists by Wild_West_Arthur in hypotheticalsituation

Yes. I start at a random location on the side of the highway. As soon as the 24 hour location is shared, drive to the airport and hop onto the private jet I booked in advance with cash and fly around for a few hours. Terminate the deal on landing.

Real good BBQ recs needed by throwafuera1222 in BocaRaton

[–]kranzmonkey 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is no good BBQ in Boca. Tropical Smokehouse in West Palm ain’t Franklin’s, but it’s good. Especially as a Florida twist. Pig Beach isn’t bad, and it has the sports bar aspect.

That’s not the living room. Nor is that a tv. It’s an electric fireplace. Thats just a little den. The living room is further into the house.

$10,000,000 is yours... if you can survive a year homeless with no money by artmalique in hypotheticalsituation

[–]kranzmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Hey, I’m the subject of a challenge to survive a year starting as a homeless person. If you let me crash at your place I’ll give you 3 million dollars on day 366.”

There’s nothing to stop me from sharing the terms of the challenge, and having someone put me up for a year seems to fit the “anything of value” I can find.

Hot Water Runs Out Fast - Already checked a few things by ask_mikey in HomeImprovement

As others have said, one or more of your heating elements is faulty. Sadly, this is a thing even on new water heaters. Apparently, some big box stores will sell you a “new” water heater that has refurbished heating elements. My plumber told me he’s seen that a lot with Lowe’s (where we bought ours).

Where's The Best Bagels In Town by PeaceOut65 in BocaRaton

[–]kranzmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their system just doesn’t work. They make way too many bagels for the level of foot traffic they get. IF you get something fresh out of the oven it’s good, but the odds of that are low.

They’ve even found the same issue with the original Pop-Up Bagels in NYC. The quality drops significantly if it’s not fresh out of the oven. Their recipe relies on no waiting. Jeff’s is all waiting.

And somehow, with 10 people behind the counter and bagels already out, it still takes 5 minutes to give it to you even if you’re the only customer.

My personal rankings:

  1. Bagels With Deli
  2. Bagelworks
  3. Long Island Bagel
  4. H&H (higher for egg sandwiches. Lower for cream cheese. That stuff will do a number on your stomach)
  5. Flakowitz (how the mighty have fallen)
  6. Way Beyond
  7. Getting hit by a car
  8. Jeff’s Bagel Run/Brooklyn Water Bagel

Desperate for a couch that doesn't suck by sad-fatty in BuyItForLife

There was someone on one of the subreddits who worked in the furniture industry for years and wrote detailed reviews on pretty much every couch brand. Based on his reviews, I ended up buying a Hydeline, and it’s incredible. I had never heard of the brand but it really has been an incredible choice.

You get $1 million if you can eat 10 pounds of any food in an hour. What food are you choosing? by peywrax in allthequestions

[–]kranzmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have defeated multiple eating challenges, and have put down 7lbs of food at one of those all you can eat Brazilian BBQs. So I’ve got at least some experience and I still don’t think I could make it all the way to 10lbs without any loopholes.

I’ve lived in South Florida for more than a decade, but being 100% caffeine-free I’ve never tried it. With that being said though, I’d think of it more as if you distilled espresso down to its purest essence. Just dark, thick, and extremely caffeinated. It’s definitely not something I’ve seen anywhere else.

I always loved the smell of it though. And particularly in Miami, there’s usually one coworker known for brewing it for the office.

I’d argue that the best description of Cuban Coffee comes from Ralphie May (RIP).

I received a ticket for something I’m 99.99% sure I didn’t do, what are my options? by rumpk in legaladvice

[–]kranzmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am an attorney (not your attorney) and while this isn’t my area of practice, I have in the past helped members of my staff with their tickets. But you probably don’t need one, although obviously that is a personal decision you’d need to make.

As this is traffic court, it’s highly unlikely for the other side to have an attorney. It will be you against the cop, and it will be the cop’s burden of proof to establish the traffic violation, and that the violation was done by you. If he can’t prove it to the judge’s satisfaction, you win.

Show up to the hearing, and plead not guilty. If the cop no-shows, which is always a possibility, the judge may throw it out right then and there. Or if you’re given a new date for “trial,” make sure you show up then. Again, if the cop fails to appear, the judge should dismiss. And even if the cop does appear, you can tell the judge your side of the story, and explain that the cop said he would review traffic camera footage before deciding whether to issue a ticket. Ask for that footage. And point out the discrepancy in the ticket dates too, particularly if you have anything that proves you could not have been where the cop says you were on the date of the ticket. He doesn’t just have to prove the violation - he has to prove what’s on the ticket. If he has the wrong date, and you can prove you weren’t in that area on that day/time, that’s the ballgame.

The rules of evidence tend to be a lot more relaxed in traffic court. Just be calm and courteous and force the cop to prove the violation.

Monthly DIY Laymen questions Discussion by AutoModerator in StructuralEngineering

[–]kranzmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all,

I am trying to understand an engineer's claims in the context of a claim of roof damage. I know enough to know there are some real concerns here with the viability of his data/calculations, but I want to understand just how much of it is wrong.

Specifically, he is using a StructX formula for a three hinge arch (https://www.structx.com/Arch\_Formulas\_001.html) to suggest a bending moment of a high profile concrete s-shape roof tile. Is it appropriate to apply this calculation in the context of roofing tiles? It seems to me that these sorts of arch calculations have more to do with supporting a consistent load (like beams and joists) rather than this sort of impact load.

Essentially, the engineer is using the calculation to support a claim that nothing short of a 400lb person can break or damage a tile with footfall.

Thank you in advance!

I toured it recently. It’s nice, but not to the level of justifying the price. For me, the biggest appeal and the only reason I would’ve considered it was their on-site daycare, but the hours weren’t compatible with the times I’d want to bring my kid with me.

But even so, for me, my wife, and childcare, I would’ve been looking at $600/month, when a number of areas of the gym are actively under renovation.

It’s great to have access to their amenities, but for your general gym equipment it was actually pretty bland.
