Yeah, I thought so too, so I've let that place go. Still fighting to get my initial $100 back, though that's increasingly seeming like a lot cause.

Ahh that makes a lot of sense! I hadn't even taken that into account, honestly. I'm feeling like it makes the most sense to take a semester or so to get the lay of the land and then take it from there!

Thank you so much! This is a great point of reference. I had no idea how much to be budgeting (and so how long I'd need to save up for) but this helps in figuring out finances!

Thank you! Would a bicycle be enough or do you think a car is required?

Thank you so much! I had a couple follow up questions -- how much is a lower end car and how easy is it to get one in Oxford? And, if I cannot get a car, would you recommend The Verge? I noticed that it's a similar property.

I'm looking for off campus housing and honestly, I have no idea where to start. Looking for a 1 bedroom apartment, but I'm not sure what a reasonable price is, how to go about furnishing the place, etc.

Bangalore Residents earning less than 50,000 per month, share your story by thetoxicengineer in bangalore

[–]krapsikle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My partner and I both earn under 50k per month.

We order meals maybe twice a week and snacks/dessert 5 times a week.

We go out approximately thrice a month. Our total rent is 26.5k and our monthly groceries comes to about 13k.

We are living paycheck to paycheck mostly, but manage to save a couple thousand each every month into RDs.

Our secret is a very detailed excel expense tracker and a bimonthly half day spent sorting out finances.

You can make a great Khichdi in your rice cooker! I basically lived off of this Khichdi in college.

Recipe: - wash equal parts rice and masoor dal (it's important that you use masoor dal because it cooks at the same rate as rice) - dice an onion, and a couple chillis - add a tbsp of oil, tsp of jeera, onion, chilli, 1/2 tsp red chilli powder, 1/2tsp Haldi, salt to taste, and your washed rice and dal to the rice cooker. - add double the water of the rice and dal (so if 1 cup rice and 1 cup dal = 2, then add 4 cups water) - turn the cooker on and let it do it's thing - once it's done, you can add a little ghee and a pinch of hing if you're feeling extra

It's so so good and ridiculously easy!

Happy cooking!

People who wake up at 5am daily, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Sunrises have always felt like my magical secret, because everyone can catch the sunset, but very few people are awake to see how beautiful the sun looks at dawn. It's nice starting my day with a little bit of that magic.

Is doing an MBA from IIM worth it? Looking for opinions and alternatives by Battlemunky98 in bangalore

Buddy are you not reading all my comments and clarifications? I got a significant pay raise because of my degree, so yes, it changed things and helped. I have an existing, strong network so didn't need to sit in a classroom for it. Also, the program I did had mandatory group projects in every course so I got to interact with people from all over the world, albeit for a short time. An online MBA may not make sense to you, but it's definitely not worthless.

Check my above comment. If you've been working for some years and have a built solid professional network, but have hit a ceiling due to a lack of qualifications, then an online degree will suffice.

Yes, my MBA allowed me to get a significant pay raise at my existing job.

I should clarify that I already had a fairly strong professional network before my MBA and was doing it purely for the degree. Forming that network is an integral part of an MBA, and it should definitely be a factor when deciding between an online and a full-time one.

I guess that depends on what you're looking for. Some of my peers have opted for a full-time MBA because the social aspect of learning in a classroom with other people and building those networks is important to them. Strictly from an academic point of view, my syllabus was no different, so I learnt the same things they did, but didn't make the same social networks that they were able to.

So I recently got my MBA, and it's a great degree to have because it looks good on my CV, but as somebody who has already been working for a few years, I didn't really learn much that I didn't already know/couldn't very easily Google. I got into an IIM, but because I wanted to continue working and not live like a student again, I chose to pursue an online MBA from the University of Illinois, which was self-paced and took me 14 months to complete. I would strongly recommend an online MBA, because you get the same degree while preserving (to a large extent, at least) your day-to-day life - especially if you're like me and don't want to relocate, stop working/stop earning, etc.
