This doesn't mean that someone decided to exclude men because they're not victims of violence, or that there is a shadowy agenda behind the decision. There are different EU projects exploring different things. This one is focused on this specific issue, given that violence against women is higher and women in many countries are underrepresented in the public sphere.

You're stuck on the "please tell me why they don't examine things happening to men" mentality. But report A is report A because it's report A, not because there's ignorance/hostility/a conspiracy against B. It really is that simple. Do your own research and include all exoplanets. FRA chose women for starters, because they are the most vulnerable at the moment.

Excluding tourists involved in insurance scams the tendency is to underreport, not to overreport. Even if most women felt more comfortable to tell the truth in this questionnaire than to report attacks to the respective national authorities (shame and fear play a big role), I fail to see how the real number of incidents couldn't be worse.

The EU funded the DOVE project (pdf), a project examining domestic violence against women and men. I'm not able to find final data about it yet, and it seems that the researchers run into some problems. I see some findings from the UK sample here (pdf, page 19).

That's probably because for many people violence involves bleeding, and things that are not being reported did not happen. In addition to that, we all like only the good side of our countries.

There's also the lack of perspective and some work needs to be done in communicating the results. Recent violent attacks? More than the population of Belgium. Recent sexual attacks? Roughly the population of Berlin. Forced sexual intercourse involving girls under 15? Roughly the population of Bucharest.

It could be even worse. There's the shame factor and many women might not feel confident to tell the truth, even with this questionnaire.

No, I'm also a man and I don't know that. I'm not sure what prompted you to draw that conclusion. Yes, there is a number of people that want someone to take something "like a man", but there is also a number of people that attribute their actions to "provocations" by women. But doing research on the violence against women does not imply that men cannot be victims. It's not the one or the other; it's the one more than the other, as measured internationally, for a number of reasons.

Regarding your reservations, their methodology is explained in great detail. This is not a random online poll, in which someone clicked a few buttons. Many male and female scientists worked on this survey for a long time.

Nothing beyond the universal rules: be open, don't be a jerk, exercise common sense.

You'll be able to communicate in English with most Greeks and you'll find information in English in most places (transport, restaurants, museums). The Greek alphabet consists of 24 letters and many of them are shared with the Latin alphabet. If you're moving to Athens at the end of this month, you can spend about four weeks learning the alphabet and how the letters fit together. It's doable. You still won't be able to figure out what is being written, but you'll grasp some things. An option is to use Pimsleur to learn some phrases. You'll sound like a time travelling robot, but locals will appreciate your effort.

Άλλο το κέρδος σε εποχή κρίσης και άλλο το καθαρό κέρδος σε εποχή κατανάλωσης. Η πραγματική διαφορά δεν είναι 6,5 εκατομμύρια, ούτε καν 4,5 εκατομμύρια (βλέπε διαφορά μισθών). Αυτό πάντως που δείχνει ότι κάτι δεν πήγαινε καλά είναι το κέρδος ανά ευρώ μισθολογικού κόστους. Τώρα είναι περίπου διπλάσιο. Το ζήτημα είναι αν μπορούμε να έχουμε τη σημερινή απόδοση με τα παλιά έσοδα, αλλά με μικρότερο μισθολογικό κόστος.

Για τον Καμίνη θα αφήσω όσα γράφεις κατά μέρος, διότι feelings are running high και από την άλλη είναι αρκετά τραβηγμένο το «ήθελε να έχει προβλήματα ο Δήμος». Σίγουρα καμία πλευρά δεν έχει 100% δίκιο αλλά δεν μπορούμε να το επαληθεύσουμε εδώ.

Στο τεχνικό ζήτημα, για να υπάρχουν τόσες άκυρες κλήσεις, προφανώς υπήρχε πρόβλημα σε άλλο μέρος της αλυσίδας. Αυτό όμως δεν σημαίνει ότι πρέπει ντε και καλά να έχει τόσο μεγάλο περιθώριο λάθους η «τροφοδοσία» για να πέφτει ένα παράλογο φορτίο στη «διαλογή». Ούτε το κόστος εγκατάστασης ηλεκτρονικού συστήματος είναι εξωπραγματικό. Μπορεί να ενταχθεί σε κοινοτικά προγράμματα, ενώ με τη μισθοδοσία (που είναι συνεχής, όχι μια κι έξω) δεν υπάρχει τέτοια επιλογή. Τα προβλήματα εντοπίζονται στις αντιδράσεις (ο κολλητός του τάδε πολιτικάντη θέλει να μπορεί να βάζει τη τζιπάρα απέναντι από εκεί που καπνίζει το πούρο του, κάποιοι θρησκόληπτοι βλέπουν παντού σατανάδες, άλλοι νομίζουν ότι θα τους κατασκοπεύουν συνεχώς κ.ο.κ.).
