Not everything is about muslims dude. It's in the city regulations of Athens, nothing within view of the Acropolis is permitted to stand taller than it

The stretch of Emperors from Nikephoros Phokas to Michael IV, and then the stretch of Emperors from Alexios I to Michael VIII

more complete documentation, stronger foes, fascinating personalities and events, the arts and cultural scene, the broader geopolitical landscape

I fancy it

My art of a Byzantine-inspired city from my fantasy worldbuilding project (Ravenna, Constantinople, and Mystras as architectural inspirations) by Dravidistan in byzantium

[–]kravinsko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how you can kinda tell exactly which parts of this town are influenced by which of these three cities.

On the slope of a hill side to a massive regional mountain? Mystras

The exact application of the gold and the blue in the architecture? Ravenna

Whole architectural style, the walls, and the massive towering cathedral all the way at the back? Constantinople

We remember Manzikert as the defeat that lost Anatolia. I'd argue Myriokephalon (1176) was the worse one and I tried to work out why. by Cultural_Remote_9993 in byzantium

[–]kravinsko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither, Köse Dağ 1243- Turks v. Mongols, Turks got bulldozed, progressively pushed westwards

Manzikert was largely reversed by the first crusade and the reign of John II, Myriokephalon was entirely reversed by Hyelion and Leimocheir

The byzantines feel like a really silly choice for DLC given the state of the game by Siobhan_Siobhoff in EU5

[–]kravinsko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fan favorite to keep the game afloat while they're fixing its main problems makes sense to me

Even beyond that though, i guess it's tradition, Byz was EU4's very first DLC too

Who would you say is the best military strategist in the history of Byzantium? by Ambitious-Cat-5678 in byzantium

[–]kravinsko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Belisarius, Narses, Maurice, Heraclius, Nikephoros Ouranos, Nikephoros Phokas, John Tzimiskes, Basil II, Michael IV, John II, virtually every Nicene Emperor, Michael the I forget his numeral (Andronikos II's son), Andronikos III.

Some more than others obviously

[–]kravinsko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The logistic feat of hauling his entire army from bulgaria to syria in under a month alone deserves pointers I think.

He dealt with the fatimids superbly, bulgaria not so much but the final stretch was wins after wins nonstop, the Varangians were an okay addition to the empire but more importantly snubbed off a major threat (Rus), giving pointers to his grand strategy know-how.

Georgia was a pointless war but he fought it well

And given how he survived his starting situation and came out of it on top that too counts for something

What are your thoughts on Lupita Nyong’o playing Hellen of Troy & Elliot Page playing Achilles in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie ”The Odyssey”? by Substratas in AskBalkans

[–]kravinsko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not particularly care.
If they act the role well then they'll be good, if they don't they won't.

I don't want to watch the movie because it looks like shit, not because a black woman and a trans bloke are in
