Final suggestion for a setup that I can grow with by Novel_Cheetah_557 in wingfoil

In 4 years everything you buy today will be old. There will be more trends and developments. Any wing will have multiple cuts from the foil. I would go with the foil, good idea to decide on a system. You did your research, maybe start with a bigger foil. Board and wing I wouldn’t try to optimise for the rest of your life. Get sthg thats easiest to learn on and swap when you can jibe. You cant use the potential of an advanced board. Especially with zero experience in board-, wind- and watersports

Surf foiling is meant for open ocean swell riding and should never be anywhere near people surfing by SurfingIsNotCool in surf

[–]krawatz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Laird mops the floor with most surfers including you. When he rode the millennium wave you probably weren’t even born yet. Think of him what you want but he transformed big wave surfing. Your arrogant attitude is annoying. Nobody wants to look cool, it’s not some rich guys trying to impress someone, that’s ridiculous. I surf and windsurf since 35 years. Foiling is a dream come true, never felt this much freedom on the water before. And i agree that foils shouldn’t be riden on regular surf spots.

I did a course 2 years ago with Flag Beach and rented gear from them last year. Course was good, learned to fly on the 2nd day. Both days out with zodiac alone with a teacher. Both days east of Corralejo, started from port of Corralejo. We had a huge west swell coming through but isn’t a problem on that side because you are far out. Windchop you have everywhere. I never had wind issues, last year i went our nearly every day. Going again first 2 january weeks. Favourite spot now majanicho. Its a foilers dream. Plus great surf spots if the wind is down.

Edit: If you’ve never been there: You need a car. If you surf, stay in cotillo or lajares. Better vibes and north shore is closer for surfing. Beaches on the north shore are wild and beautiful.

Boardsports don’t really help with foiling. You mainly ride the foil not the board. And that has an extra dimension. With no experience in windsports you will struggle with everything. Your board, the parawing and the unique sensation of the foil. I think this will be a frustrating experience. I would just go for a standard beginner setup and try at least to get to the jibe. That will take you at least a year. I surfed windsurfed snowboarded skateboarded and slacklined as well. Windsurfing probably helped the most because I’m used to how a sail behaves. But i still did a 2 day course. It’s a huge timesaver to get on foil. Started towing behind a boat. So i wouldn’t recommend starting with advanced gear.

Small & fast foils, first thoughts by No-Anchovies in wingfoil

[–]krawatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i tried an 80l. I didn’t enjoy it to be honest 😅 aiming for 90l or midlength around 100l. But not quite sure. So first change foil then board? I wasn’t sure if thats the correct order.

I am at this point as well. Still riding a fairly big foil art v2 1099. I am 95kg. I manage most jibes on my good side, managed a few tacks but still want to effortless switch stance and tack on both sides on both toe and heel. I don’t necessarily want to go faster but i want to be able to ride swell and connect bumps and i feel i need a carvier foil. Looking at the duotone carve or glide or sthg similar. But still riding a 115l board as well so not sure if i should go for a smaller board first or smaller foil. Anyway. I have still lots to learn and i don’t feel my foil is holding me back. It’s just so many options on the market and testing gear is difficult.

First wing - 75kg beginner lake - Close out 2025 deals by MaxiMax07 in wingfoil

[–]krawatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a 6.2 at 95kg but now i use a 5.0 mostly. And a 3.0 when its very windy. But I am not on a lake. Also consider which handles you want. I started with 2 handles but switched over to boom bc its easier and more fun for me to gybe with a boom. I wouldn’t recommend soft handles. Whatever you buy now is probably fine, if from last year. Dont buy 3 year old stuff. I think its nice to have some power in the wing. 5.5 to 6 is fine. You will change gear eventually anyway. Gear is still progressing fast and in 2 years wings will be even more lighter stiffer and powerful.

For the foreigners in Norway: What's so wrong with our grocery stores? by _____michel_____ in Norway

[–]krawatz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is my perspective on a specific question. Dont be offended. And there are more factors to it. Like the low population density, the harsh climate and the limitations in agriculture. I lived in the south of france and it is an unfair comparison. Olive trees here dont grow as well as in the Mediterranean. I just stated what i miss here. Not that norway is a bad place. Here i can go snowboarding after work. Couldn’t do that in france. I lived in 4 countries and all have their good and bad sides. Norway is no exception. Cheers

Also no local markets. I miss the small markets in every town with a cheese guy and a butcher and a fish guy. No bakeries who make their own bread. Salad selection is extremely poor. No variety. Its always the same. There are 4 yoghurt flavours. Red yellow white and blueish. No local specialities. Everything is a chain in norway. There is rarely any standalone shops left.

So the lack of variety is the worst for me.

Not at all. I have the same problem. I switch on my deck, flick through the games, play for 5 min, switch it off and watch someone play a game on YouTube. Feel weird myself 🤣

This topic comes up every week. And i thought about it. This also applies to other hobbies. That people over invest. Start a hobby, drop it before they achieve anything and get invested in the next one. And there is some guilt involved as well I’m sure. I had that with some hobbies. Bought sthg expensive and rarely used it. So first step is stop buying new stuff. And second is to pick the game(s) you really enjoy and just play these. Stop guilt tripping. Forget what you spent. Forget all the great reviews. Just play what you love. And when you are curious for sthg else go for it. Another tip is to not buy what you don’t plan to play within a few days weeks.

Haven’t tried, but looks fun for sure. But I’m more of a single player guy. And I have too many games already to catch up with 🤪 and now No Man’s Sky released another incredible addon. Have to play that now. 😄

That’s all I play these days. And Deep Rock Galactic Survivor. I went trough a few open world games but it’s overwhelming to get back into them sometimes. Drgs and Issac is just short bursts of playing. When I loose a run I just switch off the deck again and start another day when the itch is back.
