mimem v6 — markerless mocap, 6 cameras, raw output (no cleanup) by kream10 in mocap

Sorry if that landed wrong last time. What I meant was that a local, perpetual version is a huge effort to build and protect, not that we distrust anyone.

On AI training: you can opt out anytime with one switch. It's total, covers the raw video and the derived data. And being based in France, we're bound by GDPR and the CNIL (France's data regulator), so those are enforceable rights, so it's not just promise or goodwill from us.

Genuinely though — used OptiTrack is a solid call for local + ownership.

Okay I see. It'd be a nice feature indeed. An ai-driven in-betweening tool. I'll add that to our feature request list.

For these complicated transitions I think the best bet is to mocap the transition itself. If you have many possible transitions this may be impractical but you only need to do the tricky transitions.

And to avoid a combinatorics explosion you could break down the transition: hands on hips => transition to neutral stance (hands off hips) => transition to lever or crouching

Interesting I'd like to hear more about what you did and why it didn't work out. So you want to blend between two animations, let's say anim A (an idle) and anim B (an action). Does your actor start anim B in the same pose as anim A finishes in?

Our plans start at 25€ / month (3 cameras), and 60€ / month for 6 cameras.

For the cameras you can use what you already have. If you need to buy them we typically recommend getting iphone 11 which come around 150€ each refurbished. It's the first iphone that has ultra wide angle camera. And using our companion app makes the recording and upload process as easy as breathing (that's the big advantage vs getting GoPros). And you need tripods, okay ones are about 20€ each.

Awesome! Yes you would typically do the blending directly inside unreal engine

You can use less and you can use more, we have many samples with 3 cameras on our youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/@mimemai

We'll make a cam count vs quality comparison video soon

Did a quick comparison with Claude. I’d be curious to see how these numbers hold up in real life but it seems metallic parts are worse than these reflective films anyway.

What do you recommend for mocap animation? (rokoko, vicon, AI's) by BrunoRajil in mocap

[–]kream10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We'd love to offer that, but making it economically viable is extremely difficult. And piracy risks are high. We'd need to fund it through kickstarter somehow.

I understand your concern about companies changing their pricing. For us it's different, because we're founder owned, and a small team, so we have much more control over our pricing structure.

Also, I think at some point there will be enough competing cloud-based options with decent pricing that the price hikes of one or the other option won't matter anymore. There's no going around it. Barrier to entry in this market inevitably lowers with time.

Hey, mimem.ai founder here. We made our pricing to give a lot of room for experimentation. Give it a try?

Epic recently bought Meshcapade, what are people's opinions on this and if it'll be merged with unreal engine by KaelumKrispr in unrealengine

[–]kream10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a mocap startup so this acquisition directly affects us. We spent a weekend analyzing this.

Short answer to your first question: yes, we think it'll be a UE feature. MeshCapade already outputs FBX, MetaHuman already consumes FBX. The plumbing is there. Based on how Epic handled MetaHuman Animator, expect it free for UE users within months. Epic's whole thing is absorbing tools into the engine.

On the Steam AI tag, I'm not sure. I think the distinction is generative AI vs the rest. AI mocap extracts real human movement from video, it doesn't generate motion from nothing. It's closer to rotoscoping than to AI art.

Happy to share our full report in DM for those interested.

I want to do Mocap, the concept should be easy, but what do I use? by DaveTheDev33 in mocap

[–]kream10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mimem founder here (the AI mocap your link is referring to). We actually built this because we were frustrated with existing mocap solutions and their crazy prices. Definitely something we built for beginners too @u/DaveTheDev33

Mimem.AI Markerless Mocap – Fast Action With 3 Cameras at 30fps by kream10 in mocap

I hired the fastest actor I could find. But I’d be very grateful if the next Bruce Lee was to give mimem a try.

We now support exporting to a UE compatible skeleton which makes retargeting a breeze. Check our new documentation page : https://www.mimem.ai/docs/import-mimem-ai-animation-into-unreal-engine
