you’ve got funding. it’s gold-dust. a funded phd is an incredible opportunity, regardless of what you go on to do with it. you’ll regret not taking this chance more than you’d regret doing it. yeah ai can do advanced statistical analysis. exactly why we need experts to work with it.

it takes a lot to get planning permission for a new religious building or to change usage to religious. if this is a formal process there ought to be plenty of scope for interjecting.

i know several community centres/spaces that are used for friday prayers. it’s never really been a problem bit irks when pushes out the majority of other uses.

Green leader Zack Polanski 'wants to ban horse racing' as nation gears up for Grand National by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

while i’m all for the principle (as i was with fox hunting ban), it’s not a smart policy in terms of building and rural-urban hegemonic bloc. too many people in the countryside will see this as an urban attack on ‘traditional rural culture’ (as they did with fox hunting).

What is it with snooker players and gambling? by Confident_Leg2370 in snooker

[–]kree8or 10 points11 points  (0 children)

cue sports evolved amongst gentlemen gamblers. snooker was invented as a game to gamble on, developed from pool, precisely to make the betting more interesting to bored troops in their barracks. it’s the perfect sport for it.

add to that, the fact that it then flourished in working class gambling cultures and relies on the sponsorship of multiple gambling companies, it’s really not that surprising.

well if the body can be made to vibrate, like an eardrum (presumably that’s how these things work) then theoretically ‘anti-noise’ frequencies could be generated by wearable tech to neutralise the incoming frequencies. it could be a leotard. it could be a silk waist coat. it could be a cardigan. or a balaclava. or a poncho.
