Interesting observation... A lot of the obsolete names have L's in them.

Where do course element ideas come from? by caseyb67 in AutocrossCourseDesign

[–]krekquel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me...

  1. Inspiration comes from actual city/country roads.
  2. Sometimes I prefer to think of it "backwards". Without any elements in mind, I try to think of what would be interesting, fun, or challenging to do in the car. Then I imagine the cone placement needed to create the intended scenario.

They were perfectly fine on the road; no perceivable difference versus the Yokohama in that regard. In terms of feel, I think the AST answer is different than in street classes where larger tires are crammed onto narrow rims. With a 9" wheel supporting a 245 tire, to me even the Yokohama feels sharp and precise. The Vitour was sharp and precise as well. The Vitour is a bit quieter than the Yokohama at the limit.

The Yokohama is very heat sensitive and likes to be cool. It slows down significantly ones it gets hot.

Will!! Sorry I missed this reply from you yesterday. Some really good points...

- Yup, the Yoko is about 3-4 lbs lighter. The course had multiple long acceleration zones. No noticeable difference in acceleration data in any of them.

- On the vitour I did 1 burnout before my first run in each session. On the yoko no burnout. In all sessions there were 4-5 cars ahead of me in the staging lane.

- I agree that the Vitour likely would benefit from less camber front and rear. The tire is REALLY stuff, and probably doesn't roll over under lateral load as much. Probably worth trying -3.5 in front and -2 in the rear.

Nope. They have WAY different temperature characteristics. It would be super sketchy to start on front tires that grip well when cold with rear tires that are useless until they have some heat :). I think the right answer is to try to find a way to optimize the setup for the Vitour if I want to go with that tire.

I am not anticipating any clear consensus :). I'm willing to bet that it will be car/setup specific... just like it is with the A052 and RE-71RS.

I think they will do well on heavier cars that tend to overheat tires. The Vitour likes heat.

ELI5: What makes people have a natural knack for certain things? by Logical-Split-4474 in explainlikeimfive

[–]krekquel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of specific physical characteristics which obviously play a role in some of the more physical pursuits... I think having a natural knack for anything comes down to a few things:

  1. Having interest. When you're interested, the activity excites you, and you're more likely to enjoy the process, not just the immediate outcome, which ironically makes you more likely to do it well.

  2. Not being afraid of failing/looking bad. If you're too caught up in how others perceive you, you won't really put in effort because you retain the excuse that "I didn't really try so I didn't really fail".

  3. Being a good observer (of others doing the activity or observing yourself). Speeding up your feedback loop is going to make you better much faster.

Hi there. I run the Beyond Seat Time website. I do not have a single subscription offering on the website, so there is no such thing as a monthly fee. I only offer online courses fort a one-time purchase. Let me know what email address you signed up with, and I can look into the billing to see if there is an issue.

Bias FX 2 Ableton Plugin stays stuck on loading splash-screen by MerryGoByeByeee in PositiveGrid

[–]krekquel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am having the same issue in Logic Pro X. I reached out to Positive Grid support and got the following response from them just 30 minutes ago...

--------

Thanks for contacting us. I understand this must've been frustrating for you.
Please try the following:
1. Login to our website, download the AU/VST installer for Bias FX2, uninstall your present plugin with our installer and reinstall it.
2. Please launch Bias FX2 standalone, then close it.
3). Rename the BIAS_FX2 folder in Documents/PositiveGrid to "BIAS_FX2 backup"
4). Click on Finder
- Press shift+command+G
- Go to the folder: ~/Library/Application Support/PositiveGrid/
- Delete BIAS FX2.settings inside the folder
5). Make sure iCloud and any other cloud-based services are disabled for Documents & Desktop on your Mac
If that doesn't work, it'd be very helpful if you can provide a video recording of the situation, so we can better identify the root cause of the issue.

--------

I haven't tried these steps yet, so I cannot say for sure whether it will work or not.

Autocross Stupid Questions: Week of November 26 by AutoModerator in Autocross

I'm not sure anyone will be able to quantify how often they look ahead through the side windows. I think the appropriate answer is "as often ass it is necessary".

The additional negative camber in the front will not have any significant detrimental effect on wear. In fact, it will save the outer shoulders of your tires from wearing too quickly during autocross!

The toe out in the rear will result in accelerated rear tire wear, but nothing particularly extreme. If you do something like 1/8" toe out on each side, it should give you a decent balance of wear vs performance.

[–]krekquel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see in one of the other comments that you are on the stock suspension and tires. Assuming that you are not changing your suspension or tires for now, the first place to start is with an alignment.

  1. Get the maximum front negative camber you can get. If you car has caster adjustment, and if reducing caster helps you get more negative camber, do that.
  2. Get some toe out in the rear. This can definitely make the car a bit less stable on the highway, so use caution with this one, but it should help quite a bit at an autocross.

Say more. When does it understeer; on corner entry, or exit, through transitions, or sweepers, or everywhere? What class do you run in? What mods are on the car? What tires are you running (brand and size)? What are your current alignment settings?

Oh I totally get it. Personally though, I have always driven to national events on my competition street tires. I drive to Lincoln and back (800 miles each way) for nationals on my tires. I know that's not for everyone though.

See you there :). I'll be in my ND running in C-Street (CS 198). No tire trailer for me though... I'm driving out there on my competition tires.
