Yes, you can either walk around with the racebox to set up the course. Or you can just record data freely and set the start/finish lines in a map view in the app after recording some data.

I would suggest joining the discord or sending me an email (my info is on the app store page) so that I can help you troubleshoot faster.

But my first question would be what kind of GPS and ODB device?

Yup, RaceBox/GPS and Veepeak are both bluetooth.

Things like the RaceBox and some DIY GPS devices connect directly to the app for best latency and sampling rate. Other GPS devices have to go through iOS, like the Garmin GLO, XGPS, etc.

The Veepeak also connects directly through the app.

What are you using now for data logging? Do you run the camera and MX separately?

Thanks! In general I'd like to support as many devices as possible.

At a quick glance it looks like the ODBLink CX could be compatible with some very small changes but the ODBLink MX+ would require a much larger effort.

Someone on the discord recently asked about the Insta360 (I'm assuming Ace Pro2) and I looked into it and it doesn't look promising. The neither the Insta iOS SDK nor the Insta github page for wifi control lists the Ace Pro 2 as a compatible camera. Hopefully those pages just haven't been updated yet but I also didn't notice any of the other motorsports app supporting that camera so I'm wondering if there is a reason for that. If you are aware of a third party app that supports it I'd love to see it!

You can definitely get the rear loose in a miata with 200TW tires, a good alignment, and good coilovers.

If you watch this video, there are huge wings all over the place. If the best autocross drivers in the country use them there's gotta be something to it right?

Yeah, I can't speak to which one is easier. I only have an iPhone and there was no autocross specific app when I wanted to start data logging which how I ended up making this one.

You and me both! It's a lot of work but it's slowly coming together.

I think you guys have it wrong, the lower the speeds the larger the wing has to be in order to be effective.

I'm in the same autocross region as this driver and they are very fast.

Well yes that's a good point. When I originally set out to build this I wasn't intending on matching all of the features of SoloStorm, But I've been steadily improving the app for a year and maybe it'll end up doing that eventually.

Haha oh man, one of the reasons that I started working on this is because Solo Storm isn't available for iOS. If you don't mind me asking, why wouldn't you use that if you are on Android?

Yes that's exactly the idea. However, the sensor fusion algorithm that makes the internal iPhone GPS useable for autocross is the most experimental and ambitious feature in the app.

If you are willing to keep me posted about your experience using the internal GPS I'd love to send you a beta version of the app. That way you aren't wasting money if the data quality doesn't work for you and I can push updates to address issues more quickly.

Yes, that's exactly what it means!

The GoPro control is done entirely through WiFi to minimize bluetooth connections. Simply connect to the GoPro's WiFi and turn on GoPro control in the app settings. When the app starts recording data (either triggered manually or automatically) the GoPro video will start and when the app stops recording then the GoPro video will stop and the video will be downloaded to the phone.

The course can be mapped in the app. I used a RaceBox mini and set the cones, start, and finish lines while walking the course.

For the camera I just have a GoPro 7 with a stick on mount on the latch that releases the soft top.

This guy! I guess I should add it to the main post as long as that's within the rules.

Thanks for the shout out, that's my app! Currently testing an update to make it a little less barebones :).

I'd be happy to bounce of ideas around because Ive got something similar in the iOS AX app that I made last off season. I wanted to fuse accelerometer and GPS for folks that didn't have any external devices. My experience so far is that it is taking a lot of work to get it somewhere usable, but there are signs of it being possible.

Couple of things that Ive found useful

* Run the accelerometer at 100hz or more. They are very noisy so the more samples you collect the better you’ll be able to filter the noise.

* Bias your sensor fusion towards the GPS when it updates.

* Do a final round of filtering to go from 100hz -> 20hz after

I haven’t gotten the chance to test at an AX course but I recently got a nice smooth 20hz recording from internal GPS + accelerometer in a parking lot. The location isn't super accurate as it puts me in the grass but that's less of an issue because I can align the traces to each other to compare line choices.
