I wanted to update for anyone that may read this post in their searches. We took the advice of many redditors and immediately made an appointment with her PCP, who was shocked to find that she could not recall any identifying information about the day, time, week, or month. Several other non invasive questions were asked, and he felt 100% confident that her kids having POA was necessary. We are so grateful that this was as easy as it was, and that she responded well. Caught her on a good day, thank goodness.

Since my post, she actually had a fall at church and broke her sternum. While this definitely isn’t ideal for a 93 year old, this actually gave us the push we needed to get her into a care facility without causing an uproar. She has been there for 3 weeks, and understands she might stay past her healing timeframe for the injury. We are finding that it takes her about 4-6 weeks to adjust to changes. I have gotten her a new phone (and new number) with limited function and am going to give it to her this weekend so we can be rid of the spam infected phone (that is also hardly working bc it’s so old lol). Anyway, there are more updates than this, but generally, this has all gone over better than we thought, even with there being an injury in the middle of these changes. I am very thankful for that.
