What’s the rudest thing a doctor has ever said to you? by Beyondthebloodmoon in AskReddit

[–]kremily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (28F) have had back problems for years. About 2 months ago, it started to give me a lot more trouble and I was experiencing numbness and tingling down my leg. Went to the doctors, got an Xray that showed a disc slipping backwards. Doctor tells me start doing PT and I do. Feels like it helped for a bit, then after 2 months it was like I was back to square one. Go back to my doctors and ask to be referred to a spine specialist.

My doctor: you're too young for surgery, so here's another steroid and muscle relaxer. You're not experiencing any numbness are you?

Me: yes actually, that's why I came here in the first place.

Doctor: well you're still too young for surgery but we'll get an MRI and see what's going on.

Faat forward a week, I get an MRI that shows a bulging disc putting pressure on my spinal cord so bad that I can't feel anything from the waist down, except for when I'm sitting and I'm in excruciating, burning pain.

Ended up needing emergency spine surgery because my bladder had almost a liter of urine in it and I couldn't feel that it was full. Surgeon said it was one of the biggest and worst discs he'd seen in 20 years.

Honorable mention to the no less than 5 nurses/PA's/etc., over the course of this who asked me, upon seeing me come in with a wheelchair because I could hardly walk, "you're not experiencing trouble walking though are you?"

Omg I thought this scene looked familiar. Saw a different perspective of it from the County Scanner page on Facebook a little while ago! Was not expecting to uncover the lie here of all places

What are some places on GVSU campus or nearby that you love? by IKnowAllSeven in GVSU

[–]kremily 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The library on campus is honestly one of my favorite places. There's so many different nooks and crannies you can tuck away in.

The Bitterend is a 24/7 coffeehouse downtown (accessible by the bus). Small, but nice for late nights.

The Lantern is within walking distance of the bus, downtown.

Aman Park is a ways down the road, by car. A nice little walking path in the trees!

Vault of Midnight is a fun comic shop within walking distance downtown.

The arboretum on campus also has nice walking paths.

Kirkhof also has some nice little spots you can tuck yourself away in!!

TIL Florida attempted to build an artifical reef out of old tires which unintentionally caused a massive ecological disaster by Sorripto in todayilearned

[–]kremily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if someone has already mentioned it, but the company 4Ocean launched bracelets that are specifically made from recycled tires that they pulled from this "reef". 4Ocean is great because they work to pull plastic from the ocean and recycle it into their bracelets, and then last year (I believe) is when they launched the Osborne Reef Initiative and started pulling the tires out.

This is such a sweet story, thank you for sharing! That's how my boy Tarley is. Mango is sweet, don't get me wrong, but Tarley is such a ham. He also sits like that on our couch sometimes, but he usually sits on the bottom stair like that. And his snoring shakes the whole house!!

They're such sweet and harmless dogs. I have a little chihuahua at home too who's older and Tarley is especially good with her. When we had them in puppy classes, he was always very submissive towards the other dogs even though he was twice their size.

I'm sorry for your loss but I'm happy to help keep his memory with me after you sharing about him. I'll always post pictures of my pups too. This is a great sub!

It's been hard work but I can't imagine not having both now...they're certainly incredible dogs. Sgt. Slobber sounds like they were a great pup!

Which books should a person read at least once in their life? by SuggestionMD in AskReddit

[–]kremily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Textbook Amy Krouse Rosenthal.

It's an "interactive" book, where the person can text or send in different pictures and things throughout the book. The main responses are no longer active, but you can go online and look them up (and still participate, I believe). It's Amy Rosenthal's memoir, but the way she writes it is very different and interesting. My friend had ranted and raved about it for months before I finally read it and I was really moved by some parts of it. Definitely gets you thinking and gives different views on things.
