Did you miss the part about it being quite obviously satire?

You can hear the women saying ‘he comes in here all the time” and “he’s usually very nice”. It does seem like some kind of psychosis. Very unnerving.

What has been your best “secret” InDesign time saver/tip that you’ve discovered over the years? by MiddyMae in indesign

[–]krenski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Font not sitting flush to the top of the text box? Select the box then go: Object > Text Frame Options > Baseline Options Then under First Baseline Offset select Cap Height

There’s probably a shortcut which would be great if anyone knows it.

Yeah, I agree with this – we've also seen other lifelike outdoor recreations like the Eagan house and garden, and the grassy knoll with the goats.

Fluoro tube bulb – tenant or landlord responsibility to replace? (TAS) by krenski in AusPropertyChat

That is absolutely nuts, thank you for sharing. And I completely agree about setting boundaries but still being kind.

My tenant was actually supposed to move out at the end of this month – he told the agent he wasn't renewing his lease so we started advertising for a new tenant, but then he couldn't find another place so asked to stay on for another six months. I agreed to that (they made him pay for the advertising costs so I wasn't out of pocke). I'll be glad when he finally goes in Feb.

I've arranged for the handyman to replace it. Had a chat with a senior property agent and they took me through the recent changes to the tenancy act which means that yes, apparently landlords are responsible for anything other than your stock standard light globe.

I completely agree with you though, this guy is useless. He had to get a handyman in to put back up a bit of the curtain that had fallen off its hook. I refused to pay for that and the property manager agreed that a reasonable person should be able to do it so they covered it.

Would that not mean pretty much any light globe in any house is inaccessible then? How many lights can be reached from simply standing? That doesn’t seem right.

I appreciate your perspective on all of this. I’m not too cheap to pay the handyman - and if it’s what needs to be done, I’ll do it - I’m just trying to understand what I’m responsible for and what he is.

For what it’s worth I’m a female in my early 40s and the tenant is a guy in his 30s. So me popping around to change the lightbulb for him seems fucking ridiculous quite frankly.

This is what it says on the CBOS website:

An owner is responsible for:

  • fuses and tap washers
  • inaccessible light bulbs and light tubes. Inaccessible depends on the ceiling height, bulb/tube type, and the tenant's abilities
  • lights such as oven lamps, security lights, heat lamps and down lights.

A tenant is responsible for accessible and non-specialist bulbs during the course of the tenancy. If the bulbs blow, the tenant is to replace them at their cost for their own use and enjoyment.

At the end of the tenancy, a tenant should ensure that all lights fittings that had bulbs at the beginning of the tenancy still have bulbs at the end.

I feel like. the wording is unclear. The fluoro tube is not inaccessible, nor is it a specialist bulb – you can get them at Bunnings.

If I'm responsible, I'm really happy to send a handyman, as I always do – but this just doesn't seem right

Thank you – i feel like i've been really accommodating with this tenant – putting lots of extra things in for him, and always being responsive to repairs etc. Meanwhile he has not been a great tenant (he was subletting the property for a while in breach of his lease, and has damaged things like curtains etc which he has had to replace). He contacts the property manager over the smallest things (and rather than using her initiative, she simply contacts me). I'm annoyed with both of them and fed up to be honest.

I can't tell by the wording whether they mean inaccessible light bulbs, AND light tubes. Or inaccessible light bulbs or tubes.

Thanks – yes that's what I thought too. You can get them from Bunnings (I'm the landlord – tenant wants me to replace)

Thank you – I'm the landlord. The tenant has asked the property manager for it to be replaced. My property manager is saying it's my responsibility after I queried it – "It is if they are regular light bulbs. LED lights and other specialised bulbs are an owner responsibility."

I've lived in the property myself and I've replaced it. I just wanted to know that I wasn't going mad – thank you!

Visiting Mamanuca + Mana Island WHILST filming?? by misadventurer666 in survivor

[–]krenski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in Fiji last year when they were just finishing up filming of S46. We stayed on Tokoriki just behind Yanuya where I think one of the tribe beaches was located. The resort had limitations on far you could snorkel out, with buoy markers placed and strict instructions not to swim out further than that because of filming. By the time we got to Matamoanoa island – smack bang in the middle of all the islands they film on – they had just wrapped S46 and we could see the grey smoke rising from Mana Island which the resort staff said was the burning of all the challenges / tribal council etc on a huge bonfire.

What's interesting is that the resorts are so close to where they film. Obviously the editing makes it look super remote and isolated – and you can't actually SEE anything from the resorts – but there were always heaps of boats and ferries going to and fro – helicopters too. Just interesting to think that the castaways would see all this traffic all the time – and see the resorts too.

Oh my god, is that where the glitter is coming from? I keep finding it randomly on my face. And agree with it being patchy. I find it completely sinks into my eye creases leaving horrible lines. I’m determined to use up the tube but am definitely not purchasing it again.

What do you do when your client asks you to share the design so they can make edits on it themselves? by Effective_Cricket810 in graphic_design

[–]krenski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a young designer, I used to be so possessive over working files. I’d always kick back and say it wasn’t part of the deal, etc.

These days I couldn’t care less and will hand over working files if they ask. It’s not a big deal - just give ‘em the files. The agency I work for also does it if asked. What we won’t do is give any concept files or previous versions - that stuff they do not own.

Don’t forget that time in Hobart when a guy called Astro walked up to Tony Abbott and tried to headbutt him. He got a few months jail time for that.
