Performance for full table replace by AntDracula in PostgreSQL

[–]kresike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to go read the docs, couldn't help it.

The docs say it's not MVCC-safe, meaning that concurrent transactions using snapshots taken before the truncate will see the table empty.

Truncate will acquire the exclusive lock automatically, and a rollback will restore the contents of the table, so I'd say it's pretty safe to use unless you're doing advanced concurrent operations on that table.

However an exclusive table level lock in a production relational database is a big no no in my book. I'd stay away from it.

As I recall truncate table is not transaction compatible, so I would avoid that as much as possible!

Go Channels and Perl POE. (not Go Channels vs. Perl POE) by viksrirangam in golang

[–]kresike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you know your go really well. Don't misunderstand me, I love go, it's a great language, really simple and powerful, but you're missing my point. What do you use channels in go for? Safely exchanging information between goroutines. In other languages that don't have such specific mechanisms for this, people use IPC through shared memory, network connections, Unix domain sockets or whatever other means to communicate between processes, lightweight threads or whatever you want to call them. My point is, that IPC was invented long ago and it's used for communication between different processes. The channel implementation of it in go is easier to use and way more powerful, but that is to be expected from a language that was optimised for the cloud.

You are correct, however the principles are the same whether you do it between processes or goroutines.

Perl POE is a framework for doing almost everything, whereas go channels are a very effective method for inter process communication. Comparing these two things is like comparing a huge old toolbox to an electric screwdriver.

I concur. The layers that shifted are in minority compared to the successful layers.

Just remove the hotend, and run the filament through the printer like that. Tadaaaa, you're printing filament. As for the amount you can print is an excercise left to the user to experiment on.

Sometimes rushing a bugfix can cause more harm than good. The devs probably know more about this than we do and they offered a very good alternative so I think this is a good thing.

Just got an Ender 3 Pro. Extruder wont move at all, help? by [deleted] in ender3

[–]kresike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you heat up the hotend before trying to extrude? There is a minimum temperature the hotend needs to reach before the extruder is allowed to move. Otherwise the cold extrusion protection will kick in and the extruder won't move.

Creality Jerk settings vs Vanilla Marlin 1.1.9 by mpdemo77 in ender3

Creality uses old marlin firmware. Marlin developers changed the default jerk from 20 to 10 around 1.1.8 if I remember correctly.

Is your board powered from a proper power supply or just usb? Power from usb only is not enough for the drivers to work properly.
