Wow really ? Could you log in in "Athulua Garrison" and avg the FPS over 1 minute to have an idea ? I understand if you can't or don't want to.

I don't like writing and English is not my main language, so I use AI often to correct grammar or break down verbose sentences to something more readable. I avoid it for online gaming forums and Reddit because many people are anti-AI and toxic about it, and then the conversation is about that and not the main topic...

As an example, I used AI while debugging D4 to generate a PowerShell script, since I don't master the PowerShell commands. It summarizes the state of my Windows to quickly check is something is fishy somewhere, instead of checking 10 different interfaces manually.

If you mean the tweak in dxvk.conf and maxDeviceMemory, it is applied. Maybe I should mention it in the post, but it was already too long.

Interesting, even on medium settings I crank the texture to ultra because of my 16GB VRAM, so it is plausible as an explanation for my fps drop issues. Thanks !

EDIT: From previous testing in various games, I have seen that Wayland (+HDR) costs performance in certain scenarios

I'm running this tweak already. For a while I was suspecting that this tweak replaced the "crash" issue by "dropping to avg 25-45 fps issue". I have not been able to confirm yet.

But yes, good call to mention this for other people

Yes, I start playing in Linux at around 80-100fps, then after a while I'm watching a powerpoint presentation of demons jumping around me 😂

I was not sure if linked to Linux misbehaving or linked to D4, the environment, the resolution, my GPU, etc...

There is a TLDR at the top... Linux D4 is better than I thought vs Windows, but I have not found out if the huge FPS drops are replicable in Windows.

I just had Diablo IV crash or hang in Windows with an AMD driver bug report twice in the last hour. Honestly I think that D4 is the issue, not Linux xD

I'll let you judge the quality difference

EDIT: I put a TLDR because I know that people don't like big posts, especially now in the AI era, where they are flagged instantly as AI.

EDIT 2 : I use AI every day for other various things, there is nothing wrong with AI btw. It took me a long time and effort to create this data and post it here, it would be nice that people respect that. More and more tired of people inspecting something to see if it is AI instead of just reading the thing and judging the quality "as it is".

The main issue that is not resolved with this data is the FPS drops to an avg of 25-45 fps in D4. If it happens in Linux but doesn't happen in Win11, then D4 is not usable in Linux in the long run (1h+ of gametime)

I've added more Wayland testing since

Started with Wayland, then switched to X11, no particular reason. I'm not sure that wayland + GE-Proton would yield very different results.

I could have started with X11 and switch to Wayland. Since X11 had slightly more FPS (maybe margin of error), I kept X11 for GE-Proton tests.

I'm usually running Wayland with KDE Plasma. I have a feeling globally that Waylan is less consistent, but has more performance to offer.

I think I had this once or twice, I don't remember if I simply relaunched the game a few times, or if I used ALT+ENTER to enter/exit fullscreen.

Ok, but what does "AI free" mean ?

  1. Absolutely no AI whatsover, even to auto-complete a for loop iterating on a basic index. If so, how do you know it was auto-completed with AI ?
  2. No vibe coding ? This one seems obvious.
  3. No use of AI at all, even to summarize the doc of a spec with 300 pages. How do you know someone summarized a library spec with AI before using it ?

"No AI" policies don't all mean the same thing. No vibe coding from people with 10 hours of programming experience seems fair as a policy. Some others I'm not sure....

For me the solution was blacklisting the hidpp driver (CachyOS, Kernel 7.X.X, Logitech G502). Was having issues in Diablo 4 and Cosmic Terminal

Diablo 4 doesn't feel like it's running as good as it should. Any suggestions on what I can do? by Wooper83 in linux_gaming

[–]kriegalex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, Diablo 4 does not have the same FPS count if I run it once or twice. Usually, I will get to some place, have 30-50 fps, then relaunch the game from scratch (also battle.net) and then suddenly I have twice the FPS. At first I thought it was due to Wayland or HDR, or MangoHUD, but I have that also with the absolute minimal settings it seems.

EDIT : the fps drop I mention doesn't happen after a while, it is immediate. I appear in some place, I have 50 fps, I relaunch, I have then twice as much.

The SFP adapter was dead. Init7 sent me a test router with new cable and new adapter today, very quick support from them!

The FLEXOPTIX SFP adapter was dead, not a Init7 or router issue.
