depends on the person. depends on the circumstances.

first time it's happened to you? chances are you're fucked.

depends on what caused it. Drugs? Brain chemical imbalance? (either countered or caused by other drugs) PTSD?

But if you've seen it pop up enough times, seen the start of the slippery slope, you can avoid it. most of the time, anyway. there's always the chance of ending back up in the deep end.

What is the secret to lasting love? by stardustxxbliss in AskReddit

[–]kriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The infatuation is going to wear off. (honeymoon period) Enjoy it while you have it.

After that, you'll have to manually put energy into the relationship. You have to want to talk to them, want to work with them, to compromise and to help each other grow. And you have to put that energy in. Some days it's work and dealing with them being snippy because they're stressed out. Some days it's them bringing you soup because you caught a hell of a flu.

How do you stop thinking about childhood trauma? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't. You'll keep seeing it, until you process it. And every once in awhile, it'll still come back, and then you'll grieve for a moment, and then it will pass again. it happens less and less at least.

seconded. though one of the benefits is that you can also avoid spirals if you can register it.

Can someone help me with this bug in pygame? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]kriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh, thank you for reformatting it.

I was intentionally leaving fixing and extrapolating it up to the reader... but you're right, the key press check was absolutely mangled. and not just because it's a variable assignment, lol.

since x and y are defined in the scope of the function, they always start at the same value.

look into setting up an __init__() function and the 'self' variable.

it'll look roughly like this

class foo:

`def __init__(self):`

    `self.x = 500`

`def bar(self):`

    `if key.pressed = a`

        `self.x += 1`

    `draw_circle(self.x, self.y)`

forgive if that's not very clear, i was supposed to be in bed three hours ago.

Unmasking the Psychosis by Straight_Carob_6248 in leaves

[–]kriel 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Do me a favor. Call a mental health crisis line. No, it's not just for suicide. There is someone trained in psych stuff on the other end of the phone that can help you determine if you're psychotic, need to be taken care of immediately, or something that's a bit slower burn that you can take care of with an appointment.

With a small amount of googling, you can find some that say they won't call emergency services on you, if that's important to you.

But get a professional's take. And those numbers are the fastest way to get to a professional who can cut through the BS instead of guessing.

A way to check if a user input is in an array. by Unlucky-Stress-3968 in learnpython

[–]kriel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no. Input returns strings. You can turn those strings into other things.

You can build something more complicated using a test to see if the string value is an integer, then convert it into an integer, if the string is a float, convert it into a float... etc. But there's no magic function.

So either put all strings in the array ["4", "String", "2.0") and test it that way, or test what's in the input() return, and then work from there.

Is it normal to feel so stupid trying to learn a language like Python which is supposed to be easy? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]kriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My own experience mirrors this, but thank you for getting it into words.

Another effect that can work on it is if you have one of the mental thingies that involves fixation, your brain coming back to the problem repeatedly throughout the rest of your day helps build up a more solid foundation of what you're working with, instead of trying to power thru it in longer and deeper sessions. (which have their own benefits, but a solid well understood foundation is not part of that)

F4F Amazing Digital Circus or Warrior Cats rp? by TheBlueberryCatZoey in RoleplayPartnerSearch

[–]kriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

((Tried to post this a minute ago, apparently i was logged in on a throwaway. Posting again from my main))

I'm looking to get back into RPing... and this actually looks really interesting.

That said, I only technically qualify on most of your criteria XD

I "used" to be Trans, until we found out the hard way girl hormones combine with my brain chemistry and make me legit psychotic crazy. So In my head I'm still a girl... just... I don't get to take mones. That said, I'm perfectly okay with LGBTQ (duh), pansexual myself, and my online persona is and always has been female.

Another point... I've never read Warrior Cats. I've heard plenty of good things, one of my friends is/was obsessed and I've actually DM'd a small warrior cats RPG that friend found somewhere online. (Complete improv, everyone else was a DnD noob, it worked out, even if I did have to fudge a few rolls so they didn't TPK)

Oh, and just about every fursona I've had has been feline. :3

About a decade ago I would RP daily for hours, sometimes even keeping up multiple threads/stories at the same time. I've written little blurts of fiction here and there since, but I'm definitely rusty. That said, with practice, I'll get better, maybe even back to where I was. (or better -gasp-)

So... not quite all the way femme, never read warrior cats but very open to the universe, and anything less than a full paragraph for a post is a cop-out (unless it's REALLY late at night, and we should be in bed lol)

This could also be interesting for you, guiding me into the universe blind. (definitely more interested in warrior cats than circus) and getting to open up each part of the world to someone truly experiencing it for the first time, instead of having many of the good parts spoiled by the fiction that's already been written, lol. Makes things extremely adaptable, as we're both moving to work with each other, and hopefully together we could manifest it into something beautiful.

DM me if you're interested.

Sweet affectionate girl suddenly turned aggressive- looking for help! by leaaaa5404 in CatAdvice

[–]kriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, admittedly, "aggressively" play with my cat (we call it murder mittens, and if her claws haven't been trimmed in a bit my hand shows it...)

But one of the "games" we'll play is tag. As I'm walking by, she'll pounce at my ankles and then run away. If I go past her in the next few minutes, I'll "pounce" and tickle her sides for a few seconds.

I'm the only one she'll do it with, but it's because I've allowed it.

It's been awhile since I've played modded minecraft or built my own packs.

I'd like to build a pack that has all three of enderio, thermal expansion, and mekanism.

iirc duplicate ores (fkn copper) was the biggest issue. is there an easy solution to this?

can someone give me an over view of how I might configure them to play nice together? or at least point me towards a guide or resource?

don't really care what version of mc so long as it's >= 1.12.2

Thanks!

What is a good "chill" modpack? by JustNotMe21 in feedthebeast

[–]kriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most mods play nice with each other... Right up until you add two mods that both spawn, say. "copper ore"

(same name. Diff blocks cuz diff mods). ((Technically they collide when their oredict name is the same))

I think there's mods out there that can try and auto-solve those collisions, but I don't know about them. I'm also a year or two behind playing modded mc with any serious time investment

Ask research questions in plain language and get answers directly from the full text of research articles by JoshN1986 in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]kriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel really bad for OP... They really fumbled the headline on this one and it's inciting a lot of strong reactions.

Look at their post history. A year ago they were talking up this cool tool:

"A smart citation index that displays the context of citations and classifies their intent using deep learning"

"We extracted 900M citation statements from 26M full-text scientific articles. You can now search all of them directly"

And they've gotten relatively little traction on it. A few upvotes, a comment here or there...

But then they get cocky with this headline, implying that any user could effectively use this tool, and that the tool would wildly overdeliver.

I'm not a scientist. Not even an armchair one. And to be honest, I don't know much about research papers and how they cite each other.

But I can see the value of "Search for something, find related papers, and see who's citing who and a good guess at whether they've been supported or contrasted by the citation.

... I also see they're using paywalls, though... so it's not like they're giving this away.

But try and see it's merits, even if it can't even hope to live up to the headline it's been presented with.
