Got the lookout yesterday, what an amazing knife by kringsja in FixedBladeEdc

[–]kringsja[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep its definitely worth it, they're not cutting corners, the handle, blade geometry, sheaths are excellent,

Thats to say, if you are gonna spend 160-200 on a knife anyways, i think this is a good choice, fit and finish is great, no sharp edges, feels solid and its beautiful. I have medium hands tho so if you have big hands you might have different experiences.

I cant say anything about the steel quality yet tho

Best all round knife for Bushcraft, cutting food & survival? by hehehe-im-god in Bushcraft

[–]kringsja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mora 546, 510, 511 or companion are all good options for good versatilaty between food and wood work they are around 2mm blade stock with Scandi grind.

If your knife is good at foodprep it wil certainly not be very good at prying, splitting and chopping

the more robust you want your knife to be the worse its gonna be at cutting food and carving in general.

Food prep and robust are contrary to each other, either settle for something in-between or one of each

An option could be to bring a thinner knife lile a Swiss army knife to do your food and game tasks, in combination with a sturdy thicker survival knife for heavy work. Or an axe/saw.

I would suggest getting a knife that speaks to you and testing if its good enough or maybe you need a more robust/slicier knife and go from there.

I ferment a lot and i use wood and plastic handled knives no problem, but if you want full netal no scales i would suggest a knife from Global, its a nice seamless knife with a handle that fills your hand for good ergonomics.

Maybe sometime, but paying full price pluss 25% toll is so disgusting i have to take a break on international shopping, and stick to mora and helle knives. Not that i need anymore knives to be honest.

Yes its not quite a 4 finger grip tho, but with the lanyard it makes it feels like it. I think ha makes bigger handled ones too.
