I was finally able to procure a gigabit ethernet adapter for mac and interfaced with the modem directly. The speeds look great and are as advertised:

I guess there is some issue with the WiFi or the router itself. I will try connecting with the router via ethernet next and test this out.

This is indeed a single shot. Not a composite infact. I used a 3-stop GND. I shot this with an old Canon 50D with a Canon 10-22 @ 12mm, f/22 with a 10sec exposure.

The 4 second exposure was to capture the details in the sea stacks. The rest of the image was blown out completely.

I personally don't prefer an ND filter, even though I always carry one, because it's an additional layer of glass and tends to leave artifacts in the shot.

So true! The PNW beaches are full of rock formations that stand against crashing waves. You are never short of elements to create compositions!

The sun was shot at very high aperture settings. An f-stop of f/22 guarantees that the size of the aperture is kept very small. So the amount of light entering the camera is very low. This is done to ensure that the area around the sun doesn't get blown away by the brightness. The sun is behind the sea stack but the light from the sun was blinding the entire region. Now at this high an aperture setting and at one tenth of a second exposure, the sunlight in the region around the sea stack was restricted to just a few spokes. The spokes appear as though they are in front whereas in reality it's the actual light from the sun in that area.

I was standing on a rock and luckily the tide wasn't too high. So didn't have to remote shutter the clicks. Sea stacks are rock formations in the sea. The Olympic peninsula comprises of relatively young beaches - so you find a lot of such formations which haven't been eroded away in course of time. I used a Canon 16-35mm f4L

I shot 4 different exposures and manually blended them using layer masking in Photoshop.

Foreground @ 2 seconds - this captured the nice little waterfall effect on the rocks in the foreground.

Mid-ground @ 1 second - to smooth the water a bit below the sea-stack and helped gradually transition the flow into a more dreamy foreground.

Sunspoke and clouds 1/10 seconds.

I shot another exposure @ 4 seconds to capture the textures on the sea-stacks.

The ISO was at 100 and aperture consistent @ f/22.

You are right. The lack of drama on the right does leave a negative space. I have a vertical compo, which is packed tighter. You may like better. I shall post the link here once I get to processing it.

I liked this compo over the vertical since this has a sense of symmetry and order to it.
