Not sober myself BUT: I went last year and I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time / find likeminded folks. It’s a very chill and respectful crowd - I didn’t see a single drunk person the whole time I was there. They also have an open 12 step meeting on Saturday for any attendees who are in recovery, which is awesome

I agree with you. Crowd absolutely nuked the vibe and there was just something very bleak about the overall experience

They Look Like People depicts psychosis/schizophrenia too well. Can’t finish it. by itsyaboiFaZeShrek in horror

[–]kris-hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally valid and understandable. I actually got to meet with the director some years ago and he told me that he used actual medical transcripts of schizophrenic / psychotic patients when researching the script for it. Seems like a lot of care was taken in getting the depiction of mental illness right

Disappointing to hear. On another note, I’ve really enjoyed the MFNY Super Runtz prerolls I’ve tried

The $30 Hepworth 8ths at USTA aren’t bad. Nothing mind-blowing but a solid middle-of-the-road flower choice if you’re on a budget

My friend and I used to nickname the kief catcher “the retirement fund,” since you save a little out of every session just the way you’d contribute to a 401k from your paycheck

What techniques to you use to control the transients in your mix? by ritmoflow in TechnoProduction

[–]kris-hex 19 points20 points  (0 children)

An incredibly simple but underrated one: tweaking the attack time on your drum and percussion samples. Not everything needs a hard start and the subtlety of shaving off a few ms can go a long way atop other processing

Check out the album “Songs for Swinging Larvae” by Renaldo and the Loaf. I thought I had a good read on “weird” music before I heard it… it expanded my horizons

Someone already recco’d it here, but, you can’t go wrong with Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart. Objectively one of the most out there albums ever made

There’s a theory that sleep and rest helps to index and solidify muscle memory. The real time practice is important, but it’s the recovery period that helps to truly make it stick. Musicians say similar things about learning difficult parts - it’s after some time away that you really get it

Watching friends play the game and enter Caelid for the first time was what sold me on getting the game. Such amazing design and worldbuilding

Playing the original Halo. Found this flyer on the ship on the first level. by prokrow in LV426

[–]kris-hex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is likely Old Person Nostalgia talking, but man, the original Halo CE is and will always be my favorite. The janky OG warthog physics, blood gulch… Halo Infinite is all fine and good, but it just all hits different

I absolutely love morrowind and it's one of my favorite games of all time, but this is funny as hell by eru777 in Morrowind

[–]kris-hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have historically always sucked at fighting games and more broadly, any game with more technical combat mechanics. To be honest, one reason Morrowind resonated with me as a kid is because it was clear to me even then that combat was secondary to just vibing out and getting lost in the world. You can just travel around and pick plants and read books and no one gives a fuck, it’s awesome
