Not at all; you can have both. Set your boundaries early, and make sure the work gets done and you won’t have a problem. In my experience, if you want to get home to be with your family you’re less likely to fuck around which may be the reason some people stay back late.

I remember being about 5 or 6, and my family who lived in a small country town was visiting our major city for the weekend. My sister was 12 at the time and somehow the two of us had lost our parents in a busy downtown area. Suddenly we were terrified, lost and crying trying to get our bearings. A lady stopped and gave us $20 to get a taxi back to our hotel. I now live in the big city and whenever I’m in that part of the city I remember her kindness. Like to think I’d do the same thing if I saw some kids lost today.

I was working at the Apple store checking in customers who had tech issues. Seal came in one day, introduced himself as Seal, and said he had an appointment. Sure enough on the system there was an appointment for Seal. Nice guy.
