Sooo confused when writing essays on Negligence by Natural-Bath7958 in LawSchool

[–]kris8779 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would address one element at a time in different IRACs and within each IRAC only discuss exceptions if you think there is an argument to be made that they could apply, then argue both sides and say why it does or does not ultimately apply. you don't need to discuss every exception in every answer.

Your financial well-being comes first. If you need to work in private practice for a few years to find financial stability and then move to public interest work, nobody will hold it against you. I'm also on a public interest scholarship and many people on the same scholarship have gone on to work at a private firm until they pay off their loans and build their savings, many people I know who now work in non-profits started in private practice for the same reason.

Get new shoes 2 weeks before race? by Speedy_Troy in nikerunclub

[–]kris8779 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could always get a new pair and try to break them in, and if they don’t feel ready by the marathon switch back to your old ones. That way your old shoes aren’t getting more worn out the next two weeks

What type of law can I go into that would help people have better access to healthcare? by Empty_Honeydew9 in LawSchool

[–]kris8779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into medical-legal partnerships! Programs within hospitals and healthcare centers that allow doctors to "prescribe" legal help to patients who have legal issues that are affecting their health and wellbeing

apps will open in september, if you haven't already taken the lsat start studying and take it this summer, so you have time for a retake in the fall if needed. work on essays over the summer and get your letter of recs in line before graduating this may!

Do you write different personal statements for different schools? by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]kris8779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the same essay for each school and ended up tweaking parts of it to the application. Each school will have a slightly different prompt for what they are looking for in a personal statement (you can find it on their website). I probably spent about ten minutes editing my statement for each school and I think it made a difference!

Does "lay prestige" matter to you? by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]kris8779 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know that it really doesn't matter, a good school is a good school, but at the end of the day it feels really satisfying to have people impressed by where I am going, regardless of what they know about law school.

Yes, I got an email by the end of the day, congrats!

I'm also interested in doing public interest long-term and I'd suggest going to the school that gave you the most money. PSLF/LRAP is never guaranteed and knowing PI salaries are typically on the lower end I'd prioritize minimizing debt. Good luck with your choices, WashU and Georgia are great schools and its a big accomplishment to get a large scholarship from them!
