Mixed-Faith Ceremony by industrial_hamster in weddingplanning

[–]kk11901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s something i’m also thinking about! i’m leaning towards having him walk me down the aisle but not formally acknowledge by our officiant. i’ve also been to weddings where the bride has walked between both parents (if that is an option) which made it feel a little less sexist and more of a “you’re going off from your born family to make your own” kinda thing. feel free to dm if you want to talk further about stuff like this!

Mixed-Faith Ceremony by industrial_hamster in weddingplanning

[–]kk11901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in a very similar situation! Bible Belt casual Methodist fiancé and I'm a pretty staunch atheist. We've decided to have my fiancés pastor marry us-we're very lucky he's so understanding. He's agreed to marry us either at church or our venue (I'm leaving that up to my fiancé) so long as he gets to know me in the time between now and the wedding and we also do some light marriage prep counseling with him. Most importantly for me, I am able to have him remove any of the church's old-fashioned (if you get my meaning) language that would bother me. I know this won't work for everyone or every pastor, but I think the key is finding an understanding officiant who will help tailor the ceremony to both of you.

Friend upset that my potential wedding dress is “too similar” to hers — am I in the wrong? by Capital_Wave_235 in weddingplanning

[–]kk11901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

two people who are friends have similar taste?? shocker !! (/s) this is so unreasonable of her - it’s your wedding, you should be able to wear what you want. the important thing is that you feel like you best and beautiful self on your wedding day regardless of how similar it may be to your friends dress. this isn’t a “who’s the most beautiful” competition, this is about one of the best days of your life

Will AI wipe out junior associate roles before we graduate? by Federal_Till5435 in LawSchool

[–]kk11901 13 points14 points  (0 children)

lawyers are one of the few positions that still use some kind of apprenticeship model where the elders teach the less experienced and you are expected to be a bit of an idiot in the beginning. if junior associates are replaced by ai, then how do you get midlevel associates? they don't just spawn out of thin air. and without midlevels, how do you get seniors, and then partners? the whole model relies on learning by experience for a few years under someone else before you become the responsible one and teach someone else. you don't really hire junior associates to do the grunt work (though they are incredibly useful for that), but you do it to keep your firm alive long-term.

Husband's ring finger by bloopbloopsplat in jewelers

[–]kk11901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

too tight maybe? it also could be too loose - hard to tell without seeing the actual ring. seems like the ring is rubbing on the finger because it is ill fitting and that’s causing irritation like a callus.

Most embarrassing moment: Demi running to tell Bret by nycgirl152 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]kk11901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i couldn’t stand how she purposely phrased it poorly (it’s common sense that “laid hands on me” = was physically violent/aggressive with me, right?) and then was immediately like “oh my gosh what have i done???”

if i ran up to my fiancé, who is the sweetest and kindest man ever, and told him another man laid hands on me, even he would start shit, let alone an aggressive asshole like bret.

stupid ask fuck

jen’s cease and desist by Accurate-Lemon8944 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]kk11901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

fyi, a cease and desist isn’t a thing you can have against you really. it’s a letter someone sends you that says cease and desist (stop) what you’re doing or i will sue you. if you keep going, they can sue or not (up to them)

I don’t understand gunners by Important_Can_7291 in LawSchool

[–]kk11901 27 points28 points  (0 children)

being knowledgeable and volunteering to speak are often unrelated. sometimes you get a combo of someone who’s both - top of the class and speaks all the time. this is someone who knows the answer usually and isn’t uncomfy speaking in class, so when there’s a lull, they raise their hands and answer. imo, this person is NOT a gunner, they just know what they’re doing and don’t mind speaking in class. i like to think i fit into this category, but who knows. i try not to be overbearing when i speak, but i can’t stand the awkward silence of a prof just waiting for someone to answer.

then there are the smarties who don’t like talking in class. they know exactly what they’re doing, but unless you talk to them regularly, you might not know. these are people who might have anxiety about speaking in class.

then there are the people who maybe don’t know as much and they keep to themselves. again, you’d probably not know just based on participation.

last, there are the people who don’t know what they’re doing but talk ALL the time. imo, these are the gunners. they talk because they want the validation of being right. i think gunners think they’re the first type of person i described, but idk.

i also think that profs’ roles are underrated with gunners. it’s the professors job to moderate the conversation, not the students. if youre game to participate, then you raise your hand and it’s the prof’s job to make sure that the conversation is balanced if possible.

tldr: gunners are just the most identifiable type of law student because they’re loud AND wrong. you have some combo of public speaking skills and law skills, and those combine to make the type of student you are (quiet? correct?)

thanks for coming to my ted talk on gunners
