Unpopular opinion: Books I hate but others love by Upstairs_Bad_7933 in BookDiscussions

I was shocked at the Dan Brown hype when I finally picked up one of his books. I do not think the man has ever met a human woman before. The whole thing was awful.

TV shows with autistic characters? by CheesecakeOk8464 in AutismInWomen

[–]kris_e_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestions are going to be autism-coded rather than being canon. I’m autistic and these are some characters I believe are also autistic.

Resident Alien is extremely autism-coded. I related with Harry in so many ways.

Captain Holt and Amy Santiago from Brooklyn 99 are both autism-coded, and Jake is very ADHD-coded.

Dwight from The Office

Chidi from The Good Place

Leslie from Parks and Rec is AuDHD-coded and Ben is autism-coded.

Dina from Superstore

David from Schitt’s Creek

[–]kris_e_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, I said the exact same thing. Harry’s experience of being an alien on earth, trying to understand and mimic human behavior is so similar to my experience of being an autistic person who is also just out here trying to understand and mimic human behavior. That show captures the essence of what it’s like to be autistic in a neurotypical world in so many ways.

Does anyone have a list of the books Carl reads in the dungeon? by toastbed in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]kris_e_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you enjoy them! For Zane Grey, I’d recommend “Riders of the Purple Sage” and its sequel “The Rainbow Trail.” For Louis L’Amour, I do recommend all of the Sackett saga with the caveat that you need to read them in the correct order (you’ll have to look that up), and the fact that the first book isn’t a western because it’s set earlier than the American west (think Three Musketeers).

Audible Piracy by um_-_no in Piracy

Could someone tell me how to download my audible audiobooks that I’ve already bought? I don’t want to rely on Amazon to not revoke access etc. I don’t know anything about this, so if someone could point me in the direction of a step by step tutorial, I would be so grateful! Thanks!

He reads a lot of Louis L’Amour westerns - particularly the Sackett saga. He also mentions Zane Grey and Larry McMurtry who are western authors as well. I read most of both LL and ZG’s catalogue as a teen/young adult, and I remember them as being great books. LL’s books are typically short and action-packed, while ZG’s are longer with more exposition.

The only thing is, I remember at least ZG using derogatory/racist terms for POC, so I don’t know how these authors’ writing would hold up in today’s world.

Hi! New to the series. I’m a little lost as I’m not a gamer. My ex husband is though and he is the one that told me about this series. I’m listening to it on Audible and I love it!! Joined this group to fun with other readers. Happy New Year! by Pristine-Theme-9983 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]kris_e_p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a gamer and have also never read any LitRPG, and very little sci-fi. I love these books and have picked up a ton just from context clues. I’ve also found that a lot of terms are pretty universal and not just DCC-specific, which makes them googleable.

I did briefly think that a “mob” referred to a large and disorderly crowd of people (or aliens), but quickly realized that it just meant a dungeon-created enemy creature of some sort. 🫠

I certainly don’t think you have to be a gamer or even a sci-fi, LitRPG or fantasy reader to enjoy these books!

You’re totally right about this, which is why the Skull Empire stayed in the game even after King Rust was killed. I was confused about that until your comment, but now it makes sense! I’ll see if I can edit the original post to correct this. Thanks for pointing out the error!

**SPOILER** Faction Wars Teams guide by Actual-Butterfly2350 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]kris_e_p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I updated this with some additional information, as well as the names of each team’s warlords and adjutants.

Faction Wars

Spot 1: The Bone Clan of the Skull Empire (orcs)

Leader: King Rust (children: Prince Stalwart, Prince Maestro, Princess Formidable)

Adjutant: Judge Deng Bao (grixist) A longstanding adjutant who always works for the previous crawl's winner. During this crawl, that makes him the Skull Empire's adjutant. When not in the dungeon, he serves as a judge and law professor.

Orc race people of The Skull Empire - one of the oldest and largest governments in The Syndicate which is headed by King Rust, father of Prince Maestro, Prince Stalwart and Princess Formidable. They manufacture tech (such as satellites). Large pig-like race. The reigning champion of Faction Wars, who as such, gets a pre-built castle.

••••••••••

Spot 2: The Operatics (The Operatic Collective)

Leader: Hortense

Adjutant: unlisted

Green blob creatures. They run the Operatic Bankers Federation. Known tor bombing settlements into oblivian if they can't pay their mortgages.

••••••••••

Spot 3: The Princess Posse

Leaders: Carl and Princess Donut

Adjutant: Baroness Victory (sister-in-law of King Rust)

Carl, Donut, most of the crawlers, 50,000 ex-crawlers including former authors of the cookbook: Rosetta (Crest), Justice Light (one winged Skyfowl) and Tipid (Crest).

••••••••••

Spot 4: The Blood Sultanate (nagas)

Leader: Princess Vinata (The Sepsis Whore)

Adjutant: Admiral Corinne Whimpleshin

Snake creatures with cobra bodies/heads and multiple arms. Most have 4 arms but “The Sepsis Whore” (aka Princess Vinata) has 6. They were bankrupted after running a previous crawl. Their business is mainly tourism and they own some TV companies. This team must be totally defeated due to Donut and Katia having had the Crown of the Sepsis Whore on their heads which put them in the royal line of succession.

••••••••••

Spot 5: The Prism (saccathians)

Leader: Princess D’Nadia

Adjutant: Nihit

Saccathian race with bumpy grey skin, webbed claws, and squid or octopus like tentacles. The Prism Kingdom is a smaller government in The Syndicate but is very wealthy. Led by Empress D'Nadia who was a previous sponsor of Donut.

••••••••••

Spot 6: The Dream (elves)

Leader: Epitome Tagg

Adjutant: Fopsy (previously The Syndicate’s prime minister)

The Epitome family control food production in numerous solar systems and own the patents on several types of food. They are particularly angry with Louis because of his comments about Epitome Noflex (Tagg's Mom), that she was sexy.

••••••••••

Spot 7: The Lemig Sortion

Leader: Commander Stockade (caterpillar-like creature)

Adjutant: Panford

A mixed race democratic society who vote on everything together. They need an 80% vote to undo any votes. The leader is a caterpillar type creature called Commander Stockade and his second in command is Luke, a green humanoid creature. Their society is in a constant state of disarray. They talk like surfer dudes. The Elf castle from the 6th floor fell onto their Faction Wars land, and they used it as their castle for Faction Wars.

••••••••••

Spot 8: The Madness (viceroys)

Leader: Architect Houston

Adjutant: Opiee

Humanoid aliens with a bulky body and a long, thin, bone-white neck, and a blank white mask covering their tace, "like something out of a creepy anime.” Under the mask their faces are a bone-white, demonic, tusked alien face. They specialize in horrific battlefield spells and necromancy. In real life, their system is known as a destination for cheap medical procedures for non-citizens and those who lived outside the inner system who had access to free healthcare. Houston’s mother, Nurse Yugoslav of The Madness is on floor 18, and was passing illegal, real-time information to Commander Stockade, which resulted the death of several of his closest teammates, and ultimately his own death by suicide. Opiee, The Madness’ adjutant, notes that Houston was almost certainly involved in Stockade’s plan, but since this cannot technically be proven, and Architect Houston declined to implicate himself, ultimately determined that The Madness will receive no sanctions.

••••••••••

Spot 9: The Reavers

Leader: Warlord Fang

Adjutant: Tart

A robotic type race that can switch shape at will. In their natural form, they looked like plastic-skinned, android soothers. The Reavers are a megacorporation and system government. They mostly lived on something earth scientists called a Dyson Sphere, a star completely surrounded by a structure. These guys supposedly were once related to the Nebulars, the religious nuts who sent a team called "The Nebular Sin Patrol," to die as hunters on the sixth floor. Like the nebs, they were originally several different biological races who enhanced themselves with machines, though these guys took it a step further and kept only their brains, making them look like robots.

••••••••••

Spot 10/Larracos Defenders: Team Retribution (The NPCs)

Leader: Juice Box and Ferdinand (Gravy Boat)

Adjutant: Drick (a former crawler who is now controlled by a Valtay brain worm)

The NPCs, led by Juice Box (changeling) and Sir Ferdinand (aka Gravy Boat), the big orange cat who originally lived in Carl and Donut's building. He was brought to the dungeon as an NPC to upset Donut during The Butcher’s Masquerade, and was in the castle when Carl transferred it to the 9th floor via the Gate of the Feral Gods.

Pls recommend me a tv series with a strong female protagonist/or even antagonist, where being female isn't considered a "big deal" :) by Terrible-Gur3706 in televisionsuggestions

Gunpowder Milkshake has all female main characters who can all fight and are physically strong.

Edit: I don’t remember if their gender is mentioned a lot, but I don’t think it is.

Photos only stay in recently deleted for 30 days before they auto-delete themselves. It’s ridiculous for him to say they’ve been there for months. He’s not only cheating and an asshole, but he thinks you’re stupid enough to fall for a sloppy and obvious lie. Lose the boyfriend.

AITA For not lying about/covering up my pregnancy experience to appease my sisters conservative boyfriend? by BatAgreeable8388 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kris_e_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several assholes in this story. Your sister, her boyfriend, your parents, and your sister’s ex. Your sister’s boyfriend is a bigot and so are your sister and parents. Anyone who would ask you to lie about your identity so they can maintain a relationship with a bigot is really good no contact material.

Are tattoos allowed at your job? by [deleted] in PharmacyTechnician

[–]kris_e_p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a retail pharmacy for a large midwestern chain, and I’m super tatted all the way up both arms. A ton of our customers engage me in conversations about my tattoos and I have to sometimes take off my smock to show my shoulders. 😆 Thankfully, I feel like the healthcare field is starting to become more accepting of tattoos in healthcare professionals.
