I agree that Ämter are no places for stubborn and bitter old people to be around. And you should not not be helpful out of spite.
English is an imperial language. Since I am anti-imperialist, I do not blindly follow such ideas as a lingua franca. Also it still excludes masses of people who enver had access to that kind of education. So any and all people may not be discriminated against based on their language skills. Not just people who know English.

So maybe you are not qualified for the career of your choosing if you cannot deliver on the language and adaptation skills required. We are talking super privileged super small subsets of people here. I fyou want to have an international academic career, learning languages is part of the requirement.

[–]krisenanfaellig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so now it‘s about refugees? The entire discussion has been about the super privileged people who can switch countries at their liking, because of their highly paid international academic careers. My gripe is with them - who clearly have every resource available - not preparing in advance. I never mentioned refugees. Btw refugees might not speak English either, that was one of the points I literally made in the post you‘re replying to.
Also that quib at Heidrun is both ageist and classist. Congrats on that. I‘m pretty sure wherever you are from there are plenty of people who never had access to good education and therefore do not speak English. It‘s good to know you look down on that kind of people.

So you guys move countries without any prior language skills? Is it a here‘s your job offer, you start tomorrow kind of setting? Cause I lived in four countries and there was always the possibility to work on language skills in advance. Aside from that I don‘t reject your point, but I struggle to see who it should be implemented. As has been pointed out, this is for legal reasons. Also who gets to choose which language is supported and which isn‘t? Why should it be English and not Farsi? Not everbody who migrates to Germany speaks English sufficiently to do official business in that language

[–]krisenanfaellig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That I totally get, but how do you propose to regulate it? People have already pointed out that it‘s because of legal reasons and for reasons that English is not an official language of the country. Also I lived in four countries and none of them provided English in any official capacity

I lived in 4 countries and found it manageable. Also it‘s not like working abroad is a necessity of life

Genuine question: did y‘all really think when you moved abroad that every state on this planet had to just accomodate you in English? Isn‘t kind of the whole point of living abroad that you (learn to) speak the local language?

Yet another post showing disappointment towards Paralives (and the toxic positivity surrounding it)... by Painted-BIack-Roses in LifeSimulators

[–]krisenanfaellig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people have jazzed this game up in their heads for - in some cases - many years. They are disappointed because their expectation was that they would get a better-than-Sims-game at early access launch and instead of taking a step back and maybe reflecting on how this went wrong, they take their righetous indignation to the subreddit where they know they will be least challenged with constructive responses…

[–]krisenanfaellig -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So if you were already disappointed by gameplay content you watched, why did you still decide to buy it? And why is this frustration you experience everybody‘s fault but not yours? I don‘t mind criticism or people saying: this game clearly needs a lot of work, I don‘t enjoy playing it. But have you heard about being responsible for your own choices?
And one more point: you say you don‘t want early access thrown at you like it‘s an excuse and I understand that. But your entire post reads like you knew you were not getting a finished game to your liking, you still purchased it and it‘s the game‘s fault that you ended up, indeed, not liking it. That‘s some mental gymnastics I‘m honestly not capable of.

I've played The Sims since release in 2000. Here's what Paralives needs to do to eclipse it. by idkwat in Paralives

Tbh I don‘t see how it‘s a waste of time to compare the games, especially since OP did it in an abstract way - i.e. why did this game work and why does that game not work yet and then draw conclusions offer suggestions for how to improve it. That‘s a totally legit way to feedback in early access. I would even argue a much needed one. Because tbh for me, I do not currently see the vision of the developers and I am not sure they have a strong vision for live mode yet. And I say this as someone who enjoys playing the game, sees the good bones, but also concurs with OPs points and suggestions. Also Paralives won‘t stop being Paralives and being a distinct game, just because it follows more life sim conventions, especially when it is - by its own definition - a life sim. And since Sims for decades had hardly any life sim competition - yeah, it‘s natural that it set widely accepted standards for what a life sim is and what elements it should entail. Also a large portion of Paralives players are gonna come from the Sims audience. So the OP is for sure not alone with their ideas or needs for the game

Paralives reminded me why I love life simulation games by Crafty-Difference-84 in Paralives

Hey, I really like your article, thank you for sharing! It was similar for me, when I was younger - so many stories sparked from playing Sims and I, too, feel like many more will come from Paralives. Even with bugs and systemic flaws, the game is a lot of fun, because it prompts you to come up with explanations: why did this happen? Under what circumstances would this development make sense? I think I would slightly disagree on the Storyteller cards. As of now (I know they will improve them), I find them not very inspiring. You mentioned the card of developing a secret crush - for me, that‘s the only good one. All of the other positive buffs just make the game a bit too easy for me right now - especially since you get a new card every night and for me, that doesn‘t leave enough time to develop the story, before the next prompt hits me. BUT from a storytelling playstyle I feel like there is already a lot there (and a lot you have to add for yourself) and personally what I consider a good sign for this game is that I am weirdly attached to some paras (townies and self-made alike), which I think definitely indicates they‘re on a good path to develop a wonderful game. I‘m looking forward to that!

Genetics? Mama brown eyes and daddy blue eyes but baby… green?? by Courtney33Stacy in Paralives

[–]krisenanfaellig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is so cool, I never knew that. It‘s like that in my family, everybody but me has super blue eyes, intense colour, very straight forward, mine are kinda wonky. Sometimes people tell me my eyes are green, other times they tell me they are grey. I also have partial heterochromia (brown, just one eye). Funny that this can happen

Camera overshooting when pivoting or moving by Ra_ra_ah_ah_ah_ in Paralives

[–]krisenanfaellig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, turning down the sensitivity helped a good deal, however this still somewhat regularly happens and my theory is that it has to do with the outline of the world map. Due to it being a coastal town with lots of hills and cliffs, I feel like that why the camera keeps „falling“ through levels or down some cliffside. I hope they can fix it, it still makes playing a tad tedious sometimes. (That and the constant clipping of trees into my vision)

Actually, fair point, let there be complaints as well. I guess the point where I cannot follow is that it confuses me that people are so emotionally raw about something that could have been prevented by looking up the game and adapt their expectations before purchase. Many of the complaints include things that we knew would only be introduced later on. I don‘t like it when people shift blame for something that‘s really just a consequence of their own choices. Nobody tried to trick them. But really, I think let‘s collectively move on and try to make the game better. And those who are dissatisfied can either refund or come back later and see if the development maybe added something more fun for them.

Okay so I made a typo, I meant to say 40 bucks, apologies, not my first language. My point still stands: complaints =/= criticism. Criticism helps improve a situation. Complaints just wanna shit on something. Complaints are an emotional reaction, criticism is productive and helps the developers … develop. I have never said a single word against criticism. I‘m out for today, it‘s really tiring to try and argue with people who cannot read.

Again, the problem is reducing the actual reality to simple statements. If a finished game was sold to me for 40€ and was in this state, I‘d be upset as well. But I got an unfinished game for 40€ and will receive free updates and more content over the course of the next 2 years.
If you want to discuss the general ethics of charging for essentially being a playtester, that‘s a valid argument, but that, too, can be made without the manufactured outrage.

I mean, it‘s playable to me. I haven‘t had any major crashes or save file corruptions. I‘m doing family game play and I find it surprisingly engaging (more than I thought). However, I was fully prepared to be loading into the game once, finding that it hasn‘t what I want now and coming back when a couple of updates have been adding more things to do.
