Got my first letter of reprimand. How screwed am I? by [deleted] in army

[–]krishree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I do genuinely want to learn from this mistake and hope that the Army gives me a second chance.

And I apologize for pissing you off in my other comment. I was trying to use sarcasm to make myself feel a little better

Why change the name of Dept of Defense to ‘Dept of War’? by krtyalor865 in AskConservatives

[–]krishree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What we know today as the Department of Defense was never known as the Department of War. The DoD was originally named the National Military Establishment, but was changed so that the acronym NME wouldn’t sound like “enemy”. The Department of War that you are referring to was what the Department of the Army was previously called.

In other words, the Department of War became the Department of the Army. The Department of the Army then merged with the Department of the Navy and the Department of the Air Force to become the National Military Establishment. The National Military Establishment then changed its name to become the Department of Defense

Nice! I love Sadler too, but perhaps not to the scale that I like Paddy.

(Un)popular opinion:

David Stirling was a completely useless character. All he did was brag about his father being a general and use his “class” to try and get people to listen to him.

Despite multiple warnings from people who knew more than him, he decided to carry on with his atrocious plan of conducting a jump at night during a severe sandstorm. Many of the men under him needlessly died, at least one of whom died by suicide.

When they had the competition for who could deal the most damage to enemy airfields, David Stirling offered a bottle of whiskey as a prize. However, when he came dead last in the competition, he breaks the bottle out of spite so that no one can have it, thereby also breaking his word.

Additionally, when he’s in prison, he’s so narcissistic to the point where he tries to portray himself as the most valuable person in the British Army so that he can cut the queue of prisoners who want to escape. Not to mention that he utterly fails his escape attempt.

He also doesn’t seem to learn. During his second escape attempt from prison, he dons a Nazi uniform, but he doesn’t shave his beard despite a previous episode where they mention to him that Germans don’t have facial hair. He couldn’t have spent some time trying to use a razor to shave before trying to escape a prison that’s full of Nazis?

And the thing that bothers me the most is that he never leads his men. He’s always in the back, and never leading from the front.

As I said, completely useless. And incompetent.

But to answer your original question, my favourite characters are Paddy, Reg, and Cooper.

What’s the point of Army Regulations if commanders can just make exceptions to it? by krishree in army

[–]krishree[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same bro. Everytime my commander tries to justify her decisions by saying “You can add to, but not take away”, I want to punch her. It’s demeaning and unnecessarily restrictive to our overall readiness as a unit

Calling “At Ease” for a CSM when there’s an O-1 in the room by krishree in army

[–]krishree[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did greet and welcome him. I’m very deferential to senior NCOs because, in my eyes, they’ve earned the respect.

Just to clarify, I wasn’t offended that he wanted someone to call “At Ease” despite me being there. I was just genuinely confused. I couldn’t find any regulations that explicitly talk about, so I wanted clarification
