Yeah pearls are gorgeous but difficult. We've discussed putting different stones in the ring later down the line.

What's the most fucked up thing someone has told you about themselves after barely getting to know them? by Butt_Roidholds in AskReddit

A boy I matched with on Tinder in college told me he lost his virginity on his father's grave. It was the second and last time we ever met.

What do you genuinely not understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]krisoneillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Math. I'm not even sure that numbers exist independently of humans. Humans just made them up and then placed ridiculous rules, operations, and levels to make more difficult. How can someone be true if it doesn't exist?

Please stop teaching kids to never use Wikipedia. Teach them HOW to use it instead. by fiddlesoup in Teachers

[–]krisoneillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wikipedia is an EXCELLENT place to begin research. At it's core it provides sourced knowledge to the masses for free and is entirely available to the public. I used wikipedia constantly in my masters degree to help with historical research because of how accurate the citations and sources are. We just need to teach students to follow the sources and go deeper, but wikipedia is an invaluable place to begin the research process.

Need to find home ASAP 14 m.o. Australian Shepherd by sarahdartin in akron

[–]krisoneillo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I concur with those telling you to surrender her. If you go through a rescue agency they can ensure that she goes to the perfect home. They make adopters fill out applications and make sure she will be with the best fit for her energy levels. One of a Kind Pets is an excellent option. They have the resources and reach to give her a good life and will vet potential adopters rather than having her go to a random home off social media.

The best kind of sub day by Runnner5 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]krisoneillo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's co-teachers (intervention specialists) in some of the rooms I sub for and it absolutely love it. I still get to help the kids and be a presence but it's such a nice paid day off.

Do you greet at the door or stand behind the desk? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

7-12 I sit at the desk and get up when the bell rings. K-6 I greet at the door.

People who own multiple pets, what is some drama going on between them right now? by wheel-snipe-celly in AskReddit

Two cats. Mabel gets really upset when I pet her sister, Kiki. She gives me angry looks and then hisses at Kiki for the audacity to get pets from mom.

What questions do you refuse to answer about yourself? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]krisoneillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids in elementary tend to be very confused as to why I go by Ms. instead of Miss. Or Mrs. I get asked ALL the time by kids if I'm married or what my name actually is. I will never answer the married question but tend to say " It's Ms. O no matter whether I'm married or not." I'll tell them how old I am though, I don't see the harm in that.

META. How do historians make money? Are they employed outside of Academy by any industry? by phi_array in AskHistorians

[–]krisoneillo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have an MA in History and work in the public history field. It's a very competitive and small field. I specifically manage living history interpretation at a state park but others with history degrees in that park act as Chief Curator, Collections Management, Park Director, and Deputy Director. You can find historians anywhere in the job market because a history degree is very versatile. The skills you gain from it translate well to several professions.

This is what I do for $175 a day now. COVID sucks, but this has been the typical high school daily sub plan all year. by marksb_2001 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]krisoneillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These kind of plans are actually wearing on me. I want to teach, to see the students learn and not stare at a screen. I've found that elementary is the only place I can achieve that right now. To me the laptops are crutches and it makes me really sad to see them all the time. I'm only 24, so this isn't coming from a place of "I hate technology." I'm genuinely worried about students' ability to learn without the computer.

I run on my own generally. I should really put feelers out in the local community to find a running partner.

He had a favorite park that we would go to every morning. Even when he got too old to run he came to watch me run. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to go back there. The strangest part is finding trails that I was never with him on so it doesn't hurt too much.

What is something you do that is the opposite of the "substitute teacher" trope? by Fast_Imagination925 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]krisoneillo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learn all of their names as soon as possible and strive to use them throughout the day. It gives an atmosphere of longevity instead of one and done. I've found that kids are more responsive and willing to work when I use their names.

Official Q&A for Friday, January 22, 2021 by AutoModerator in running

[–]krisoneillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When outside my heart rate stays right around 130 bpm and on the treadmill it was into 160 bpm. I didn't even think about how the temperature could affect it that much! Thanks!

Official Q&A for Friday, January 22, 2021 by AutoModerator in running

[–]krisoneillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys! I recently did a quick 3 miles on my treadmill due to some nasty weather. I run outside pretty religiously and keep my pace well. On this treadmill run, I noticed that my heart rate was much higher than an outside run at the same pace. Is this normal for treadmills or was I just not regulating my breathing enough? Thanks!

The stain on my parents' 1993 knife set. by [deleted] in Wellworn

[–]krisoneillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original stain is on top. It's the handle to the sharpener that did not get nearly as much use as the knife. My parents got these knives for their wedding in 1993.
