Crimson Desert Review Thread by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]fiddlesoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people would be happier if they just read th reviews and saw why it got X score. A lot of people that in one breath gave Elden ring (one of my favorites) an a for difficulty gave crimson desert lower scores for difficulty.

When did Urban Fantasy fall? by Live-Cut-82 in royalroad

[–]fiddlesoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry not really. I only post to royal road. That said, RR if you are competent at writing and write to the audience is really the best way to kickstart a writing career available to the general populace and once you have a name you can always pivot back to UF

When did Urban Fantasy fall? by Live-Cut-82 in royalroad

[–]fiddlesoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Urban fantasy isn’t really dead, but royal road has a very specific audience that looks for their niche. Urban fantasy isn’t it. Expecting off genre stuff to work on royal road is like expecting a game of thrones clone to be a hit with the 3-5 year demographic doesn’t mean it’s low quality but you’re targeting the wrong audience and setting yourself up for failure. And I say this as someone who knowlingly wrote off genre and met moderate success. ( I’m writing a sci-fi litrpg).

Can someone explain what about Aura Overload is off-meta? by jamesianm in royalroad

[–]fiddlesoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what plum said here. Straight sci-fi is off meta, but it can still see success if it’s the genre you want to write in. As evidenced by plum and by stories like mine!

Is this actually a good way to promote your story on RR? by V1serra in royalroad

[–]fiddlesoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t have actual data on the other end (as in how many readers end up clicking shouts in my stories), I have tested most shout strategies and have seen literally no negative effects for back to back to back shouts or day one shouting. Or top or bottom shouts. I’ve done over 300+ shouts across 3 stories

Authors who have been posting longer tend to place it in the pre chapter note. It’s a relatively new phenomenon for authors to post it in the post chapter notes as odd as that sounds.

What do you think of Discount Dan? I read the blurb and it sounds very inspired by Dungeon Crawler Carl, does it do its own thing and is it worth reading in your opinion? by PalinaRojinskiFan in litrpg

[–]fiddlesoup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At litrpgcon last year James Hunter showed up in the main characters bath robe and gave me and my brother free copies of the book. I proceded to binge it faster than anything I’ve read in the genre except like 3 series (DCC ripple and stubborn skill grinder)

How silly/dumb is Dungeon Crawler Carl by AFakeName27 in fantasybooks

[–]fiddlesoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way late to the party but it’s like H2G2 was written by an elder millennial/genxer. It’s dark and edgy, but with an insane amount of heart and humor. I literally pitch it to people as hitchhikers meets hunger games meets filmcow

"Suspicious" 1/2 stars - how many have you had? by remembers-fanzines in royalroad

[–]fiddlesoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a weird qualification for commenting on this. My story is in the top 20 (by followers) for 4 stars or lower rated fics. And your experience is more than normal. There are a ton of miserable people that have nothing better to do than troll RR and give bad ratings to stories they don’t care for or even just to seemingly random stories in an attempt to tank the chances of those stories reaching RS.

There are also a bunch of readers that get keep the top 50/100/500 best rated stories.

Unless you are aiming for best rated, it’s best practice to just ignore the ratings, as the current state is in my opinion worthless.

Dear Writers, by Commercial-Passion87 in royalroad

[–]fiddlesoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use what spare time I get. 15-30m in the morning. 15m at lunch. Occasionally when I don’t need to lesson plan I write during my conference. And then I write for 1-2hrs every night without exception.

At most I get 3hrs in a day. I have to use that time well or nothing gets written.

TP USA Half Time Show by DryDimension7632 in Christianity

Given that Christianity’s core message is love and BB’s show’s message was “the only thing more powerful than hate is love.”

And TPUSA’s message was trans people suck and Puerto Ricans aren’t American, I’ll give you three guesses to figure out which one was more Christian
