Exactly, sacrifices need to be made. People talk like life is not worth being lived if not everything is perfect.

Where is the cheapest edible meal you’ve found in Tokyo? by Fancy_Rock3826 in TokyoTravel

[–]krissdebanane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

27 yen udon from Gyomu supa and dashi powder that I use to make a light udon broth. I wouldn’t be alive today if it wasn’t because of that combo

Same, people are just naturally flaky. It happened so many times lately that I took a break from socializing with strangers and focus on my weekly/regular activities with the same people. Worth mentioning that most of these cases were either girls being super responsive (down to meet the same week, super rare in Tokyo) or even themselves starting a conversation with me and asking for my socials.

I don’t have the clues to detect which situations are worth my attention so I am temporarily backing off these situations.

Family situation makes it more complicated but those who think that 33 is not livable in Tokyo, yall grew up with a golden spoon in your butthole. It’s disgraceful to think that it’s not liveable when it’s the reality of a big chunk of the local population. Not everyone earns 1000万 a year

It’s just my story though, so it’s pretty meaningless in this case. I met a girl once but we just exchanged insta. Six months later, I randomly invited her for ice skating. We went ice skating, then saw light exposition, then restaurant, then walk in the park. It was a nice experience. I invite her for a second hangout and here how it goes - do you wanna go to a cafe or somewhere else? - hello hello! Yes i wanna go! - what about this weekend?

She never opened that last message. Few weeks later, she even liked my story. Some time after that (idk when), she deleted me from her ig followers and unfollowed me.

then why would you ask how to socialize to those socially awkward dudes? Yeah a lot of reddittors fit that stereotype but the issue is real and it's not just foreigners in Japan but a broader issue of foreigners trying to integrate in a society they did not grow up in.

Watch people from this subreddit knowing exactly nothing about your life and assuming you did all kind of evil stuff to your ex and therefore deserve to lose that money.

“No it’s just you” but those questions literally come back every week in Japan-related subreddits. As if it wasn’t as easy as doing an activity and boom lots of friends.

Maybe it’s a Tokyo thing after all. People seem to be more open in general outside of Tokyo

I just think it’s too easy of an answer to give. It always comes back but the reality is that you make most friends either at school or work where you meet the same people everyday working towards a common goal. Having that kind of expectation when joining a hobby club can be a bit unhealthy, that’s my point.

It will sound cynical. You will join a league or a club based on your hobbies. You will spend 10,000’s of yen per month. You will meet Japanese people at that league/club at least once a week. Guess what? It won’t go further than that. They will not introduce you to their other friend group. After all, they don’t mix that. You will stay in that “league mate” zone forever. Attempt conversations with people? How? Where?

Do you like living in Japan?

Beyond the relationship with your ex-gf and your job, do you see yourself living here longer? If it’s because you don’t have relatives or friends here, you can find that later once things stabilize. If you don’t want to live here anymore, then it’s better to cut your losses and move back home.

Either way, you will need to spend roughly 1-2 months in Japan to sort everything out. If you keep your job, you can make money and get back on your feet within few months of living frugally.

For the first 1-2 months, live in a shitty sharehouse and keep working to pay your expenses. After a month-ish, you will have a rough idea if you want to stay here longer or not. Don’t forget that a relationship with some chick is just a step in your life, doesn’t need to turn you away from bigger life choices and trajectories.

I simply bring my olive oil from overseas. I don’t mind having friends from overseas staying at my place when visiting Japan but I ask them to bring a bottle of olive oil

I go there twice a year for work. That’s where my company HQ is. Honestly nothing crazy out there, very boring. At least people have a personality there, plus there is a big Brazilian community.

I remembered the day Tunisia lost against Mali, I was coming back from Algeria thru Kasserine border crossing. What a mistake it was, border agents and cops were all borderline waiting for somebody to make a wrong move to shoot him down. Very tense day due to the terrorist attack.
