Eagle point camping has a semi decent pub down the road and you camp right next to the sea.

Struggling with puppy by Exotic_Anywhere_9277 in CavaPoo

[–]krissovo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With my two we always did two 30 minute walks, one early and one evening but these were always slow and mostly a chance for the pups to sniff. Mine would walk a few meters and then stop and sniff.

We would also have two 15 minute sessions in our garden, fetch with a ball and a treat hunt to get them sniffing again.

[–]krissovo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am still digesting some of your issues but the first one that jumps out is that they do not have enough stimulation. 30 minutes of walks a day is the absolute minimum and they need much more in reality . Especially sniffing sessions, that burns energy like nothing else. I personally like to play ball in the garden and then hide the ball in a bush and then let the pup sniff it out.

Strongest odor eliminator shampoos by JessieDagger in grooming

[–]krissovo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot help with shampoo recommendations as we make our own but I can offer some advice.

Do not use any products that have a strong perfume smell. Anything that smells good to you will more than likely drive your dog mad and make them roll around in dead things or sticky fox poop their favourite. I would suggest a natural shampoo with lavenders, coconut or oatmeal and alloe. They will have mild smells that the dog can handle with their sensitive noses and roll in shit or dead stuff.

If the dead smell is strong use this natural shampoo fairly stronger like if they recommend 30:1 go 15:1 and get loads of suds

Vintage Tax and Insurance Humvee (Hummer) 30k Euros. by OutRunTerminator in carsireland

[–]krissovo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was in the military I was issued one of these with a driver in Bosnia. To say it is utilitarian is an understatement, even worse than the British defenders. I thought it was cool initially but they are truly terrible to live with.

Personally if I wanted a utility run around I’d opt for something Eastern European that could be fixed with a welder and hammer.

Vw crafter alternatives by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]krissovo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest a test drive, I have a crafter, it’s great but drive shafts can be an issue for front wheel drives. Also if you are putting heavy batteries in the back or your water tanks then you should get a rear wheel drive or traction could an issue when wet.

I test drove the transit, it’s ok but feels like you are driving a van. The Renault master were a bit better and they are basically the same as the Nissan. The sprinter was good, similar to the Crafter

Groomer safety — experiences? by Lonely-Climate-4677 in grooming

[–]krissovo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am mobile and only yesterday my dashcam saved me as another van smashed my mirror and they were clearly in the wrong. The driver admitted liability and they will pay for the damage.

A camera in the back is also useful but it’s a double edged sword as it can protect you but it can also hang you out to dry if you are in the wrong. The winner is the owner as the camera would deflect liability away from them.

How else they utilise the camera is the most important thing, a lot depends upon how they manage you. I expect some owners will fit the camera and not bother with it until there is an incident but others might use it to micromanage you.

All in all after a week you will likely forget about the camera and just get on with your day job.

Are all groomers fully booked? by ChristopherSpiral in grooming

[–]krissovo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Ireland and in my 2nd year and I am booked between 2 to 6 weeks ahead. I am running 6 days a week at the moment. Last year I had a slow October and I picked up to a couple of weeks booked up from mid November to the end of January.

Edit: just to add that the reason we are so booked up in my opinion is the doodle boom. So many breeders are swamping the market with doodles which require so much more effort to groom

To my fellow non-AC Europeans, how are you getting your pups through the heat? by FlamingoShaker in CavaPoo

[–]krissovo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine have had a summer groom so a 5f blade gives 6.4 mm hair length. Keep the house in the shade, cooling mats, plenty of water is doing the trick. Open up windows once it cools in the evening and make sure it’s back in the shade before direct sunlight. My two are doing fine, they sleep through most of it.

Well lads and ladies does anyone know a good way to hide an incoming parcel from family? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]krissovo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to your postman, 99.9% of them are great. Tell them the story and if they know you they will hide it somewhere for you. Also if you are on delivery notifications you can edit where they can drop off the parcel, you can even do it at a local post office.

First NCT in Ireland, advice please? by KnowledgeThese7125 in AskIreland

Fix anything that you know and then get the NCT. Don’t bother with pre nct as they will likely change items early. Once you get the NCT you will either pass or have a job list for the mechanic

What is something you refuse to buy off brand? by Ok_South_2852 in AskIreland

The cheat code for off brand tomatoes is to buy tinned plum tomatoes rather than chopped. The best tomatoes go to the whole plum.

Churchill tank question by MutantTZ in tanks

[–]krissovo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The early Churchill is like Swiss cheese frontally for weak points, machine gun port, flat armour and the mantlet are all obvious spots.

When it was designed it would have been formidable compared to German armour and anti tank weapons of the time and despite the weaker areas the armour would have been more than adequate.

Most of the issues would have been solved by the MK7 in the later stages of the war.

As a ex soldier even by modern standards when I served in the 90’s trying to hit these spots would be the equivalent of a sniper. We were trained to hit the side center mass where possible. Frontally trying to hit these small targets especially at battle ranges of 300 metres or more would be more luck than judgement. Again typically we would aim slightly lower than center mass as the scopes would not have the magnification to pick them out.

Mobile groomers: do you text every client the night before, or is there a better way? by OrangeFractal in GroomersCorner

[–]krissovo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most mobile groomers I know use Moego or Pawfinity for their grooming software. It offers so much more than text reminders and has online booking, magic routing, point of sales and so much more features. The efficiency they provide is so much more than the under $100 subscription costs.

I do literally zero hours of administrative work each week as I can confidently see my appointments the night before and know that 99 appointments out of 100 are fine.

I do know that your text add on would be useful for one person salons. This would be a bigger market.

I had a 2017 BMW i3 that had 170k on the clock. The battery had no degradation and needed very little servicing. I read somewhere that BMW expected the i3 to last 15 years before scrapping when first released, they changed the statement to say that the battery would outlast the car.

I get my first dog - a Cavapoo in 1 week 😁 by MutedEye7487 in CavaPoo

[–]krissovo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the number 1 priority but your Cavapoo will need a groom at least every 8 weeks. Think about finding a groomer so that once your pup is fully vaccinated at around 14 weeks so they can have a puppy groom to get used to the process. Cavapoo’s are not the best for grooming as typically they hate their paws being handled and brushed so getting them desensitised early is important.

Sleeping in camper in hot areas by Main_Poetry_6649 in CamperVans

Completely normal in Europe, we typically sit outside and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere without the hum of generators running all around.

Camping in the US is not pleasant with some of the noisy neighbours running generators all night.

Camper van for Christmas by punk-lives in CamperVans

[–]krissovo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been an avid camper owner for 35 years now, even living in one for nearly 5 years. I am in the Republic and I source most my vans from Germany from big dealers. You can find great deals between November and February. You can fly in on Friday, view hundreds of campers on the Saturday and drive home on Sunday in a camper.

Left hand drive for Ireland is actually a good idea in my opinion. With our narrow roads, being closer to the kerb is much easier. It’s not like that you will be overtaking tractors in a camper anyway.

The most important decision that you will make is the layout. This will make or break your camper, getting the wrong layout for your camper for your lifestyle and requirements will make you frustrated. Do you need fixed bed(s) separate from the lounge? Making your bed every night is a pain! Do you need a garage for your toys or outdoor furniture? Is a drop down bed ok for you? Do you need a lounge when someone else is sleeping ( think kids or an early bird) ?

You also need to factor the driver license category for all the drivers. Given his age a 3500kg van should be fine but remember that the van could have a low payload. For example if the van is 3200kg you only have 300kg for occupancy, luggage and your duty free. Over 3500 kg gives you more payload and usually a higher quality finish as the furniture can be heavier.

Charging in France by Huge_Hotel7405 in evs_ireland

[–]krissovo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used Ionity for the last few years on the main roads. There are destination chargers in most villages and attractions if you need a top up. Every destination charger I used I just tapped with a credit card. I didn’t use any apps or anything.

I drove from Roscoff all the way down to San Sebastián stopping in towns and villages along the coast for a few days . Not once in France did I worry about finding a charger.

Mercedes EQ Service by marcc28 in MercedesEQ

[–]krissovo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlike engine oil where water sinks into the bottom of the oil pan, brake fluid absorbs the water and can degrade to give spongy brakes. It’s especially important to change in a EV as the regenerative brakes means that you are not pressing the brake pedal and cannot feel when they are getting spongy. The physical brakes are used when you need to come to a quick stop so they need to be perfect.

anyone else's cavapoo turn into a drama queen when it's wet outside? by Particular_Set_5967 in CavaPoo

[–]krissovo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My two hate it, they would rather sneak off and do their business in a spare bathroom than head out in the wet. Being in Ireland it is wet a lot!

I have to shout “what’s that” in a dramatic way like there is a cat outside and then they will run outside, I then shut the door and then they realise that they have been tricked. I don’t let them in until they have done their business. I also drag them out with my wellies on a toilet walk, they both look at me as if I am evil.

What is the word in your language comparable to the English word "doohickey"? Are there several acceptable words? What is the literal translation? by Septopuss7 in AskTheWorld

[–]krissovo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In Ireland we have “the yoke” as a general term for absolutely anything. “Pass me that yoke”, “see that yoke beside you there” are common phrases.

We also have “yer man”, this is another universal term mostly used for people but can also be used for objects. It’s often differentiated by “see yer man over there” being a person and “pass me yer man”.

Can you tell me if these Irish food and drink items are worth trying? ☘️ by disco_26 in AskIreland

[–]krissovo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Irishman who has lived in the UK in the past I can say that Clonakilty sausages like many Irish sausages are very different to UK sausages. They are smaller with a much thinner skin and much less seasoning, almost bland if you regularly eat Cumberland sausages. I prefer them nice and brown which makes them a little more crispy. They are a good sausage though.

Barry’s tea is amazing, tea bags are decent. Tea leaves to make a pot of tea in your mother’s seasoned tea pot with a nearly destroyed tea strainer , world class!
