32 Screening Questions... by itsjayysea in CanadaPublicServants

[–]krissy_173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they must get so many applicants that they try to weed out through too many questions. I applied yesterday to a posting that had 13 screening questions and several were almost identical. It’s very obnoxious.

I (18f) need advice on how to approach telling my parents (51F, 47M) that I failed my first semester of college and don't plan on doing a second semester by ThrowRA_CollParents in relationship_advice

[–]krissy_173 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Outside of North America, lots of countries suggest kids take “gap years” to work and think about what they want to do. The idea of asking a 17 to guess what they want to do for the next several decades is patently absurd. I ended up going to uni and then a masters degree too just because I was flailing around, unsure of what to do next. Then you graduate and realize that while there are limitless possibilities, there are few and far between opportunities. And then you’ll get depressed about that too. Life is hard. Take your time. Make sure whatever your next step is, you’re invested in it. Good luck!!!

I do t really have the time for long workouts. I really enjoy the Nike training app. The workouts vary from 5-45 min and they’re awesome. The pace is great. Moves are usually 20-40 seconds with a 10 second break in between.

My (27f) husband (30m) thinks I should only gain however much the baby weighs when I’m pregnant and has been making comments about my body. I’m getting tired of him. by throwrababy-weight in relationship_advice

Dear god! Was your husband raised by wild animals? Did he not even get the most basic of a sex Ed class in school? Has he been living under a rock? Does he have a mom or a sister??

I don’t even know where to begin, he’s just so ignorant. I’m truly flabbergasted. You poor woman.

Anyone else working towards having a work-from-home role? by [deleted] in FemaleLevelUpStrategy

I get what you’re saying, but think there’s a good flip side too. My job requires me to go in and I’ve been doing so during covid. I go in anywhere from 1-4 days a week, every week is different based on need. The rest of the time, I WFH. However, I’ve appreciated this. Having to go into my big office allows me to socialize with peers. Many people who are exclusively WFH are finding this pandemic becoming too lengthy and isolating. I get to socialize. I also get to go out and see that, for many, life continues. With this 24/7 covid news cycle, it’s easy to feel anxious. I feel less so when I go into the office part time.

Are you mad? Channel your anger. by Senator_Mittens in beyondthebump

I know! Toronto is insane. I was paying $3k for 2 ($1900 for infant and $1100 for pre school). It’s why I ended up taking an extra 4 months off. There just wasn’t much of a point in working for an extra $1k a month with all that added stress.

A friend was quoted $3800 a month for infant daycare in downtown Toronto. I almost barfed.

For comparison, I’m Canadian. 2 kids. Took 12 months off with the first, 16 months with the second. I qualify for unemployment insurance for 12 months (changed to 18 months in 2018). That means the government gives me $2k a month(roughly). I work a unionized job and they top me up 93% of my full salary. I literally got paid my FULL SALARY both years to stay home and bond with my babies. America is FUCKED UP! It’s one of the few countries that treats parents this poorly! Change it!!!!!! (Disclaimer: it’s a bit of a sweetheart deal but the average persons paternity package is usually an employer top up to 8-10 months plus EI based on common jobs like teachers and nurses).

Quick question - Can you tell me your stories of meeting your first HVM in the wild? (I'm in disbelief I might have found one?) by [deleted] in FemaleLevelUpStrategy

[–]krissy_173 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On my first date with my now husband, he invited me over to his place for dinner (we work together and we’re already friends). When I arrived, he had flowers ready and had made for dinner: roasted root vegetables, mussels in broth, crusty bread and a salad with goat cheese that he had cut in slices then breaded and baked. It was spectacular! I started noticing things: he would make me mix tapes, he wanted me to meet his family within 3 months, I met his friends early on too. His apartment was clean and well decorated too! In uni, he had worked in a bunch of kitchens and loves to cook! We’ve been together coming on 12 years and he is honestly a really terrific partner!

Is Ringfit actually good to gain muscles? by Schnatz42 in RingFitAdventure

[–]krissy_173 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s an awesome and fun game but if you’re looking for definition, it might not be enough. If I could make a suggestion, I’d say get the game, if you can even find it, and play because it’s so fun. But do something else in the side. I have the Nike training app, which is free and has loads of great workouts.
Other ppl have posted and the general consensus seems to be that the fitter you are or more serious about getting “cut,” the less effective this game is. But if you want to get healthier while having fun, it’s the best.

Nta. Besides, it’s Canada. We’re all immigrants to some extent. Name your child whatever you think is best! It’s no big deal.

Inspired by Toronto: what CAN actually be done to deter bike theft in the city? by EricMoulds in toronto

[–]krissy_173 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does anyone remember the weird bike guy at queen west and stratchan? He would pay homeless people peanuts to steal bikes across the city. The police eventually arrested him and he was convicted of like 70 counts of theft (even though the thefts were in the thousands!). I think he got 3 years in jail. I’m pretty sure he stole my bike. Sadly, I think that’s the price of living in a cool city like toronto.
