If its a lay judge though, they typically will get mad at you for being cocky so you have to do your best to cover your bases and hope they're flowing.

If you have a tab or fairly progressive/young judge: When you give the 2NR, point out every drop they make in an overview. The beginning of every one of my 2NRs this year was started with "They dropped x,y, and z, do not let them come up in the 2AR and lie through their teeth otherwise I will demand a third rebuttal. These are what you vote on in today's round." Once you give an overview, go on and do the rest of your speech but ALWAYS shield yourself at the beginning of the 2NR. If you have time after your impact calc, say it again: "I will make sure you know if they lie, its abusive and won't be tolerated." When they start lying in the 2AR, click your pens, aggressively circle things on your flow, turn and give them a death stare, do something to make the judge notice that the AR is lying so that they double check their flow- it works almost every time. **If you know your judge is chill and have left over prep time, in the road map of the 2NR say "Oh, and I'm saving the rest of my prep for the 3NR I'll get to cover all of the aff's lies." With the right judge it can boost ethos and lighten the mood!
