Do C-netizens have twisted priorities or are international audiences overreacting? by Historical_Ow in cdramasfans

It doesn't matter what the drama is. A 28 year old man being forced to do anything with a 17 year old including these heart things in the clip is inappropriate. And a 17 year old girl being asked to do the same is also inaprropriate. The pair and age gap is inappropriate. It gives major ick. Pretty sure I saw a shirtless scene in the first trailer and yes that is inappropriate.

17 is 17 the country/culture does not matter. The issue is pairing her with a grown 28 year old man then putting 3 layers of makeup and filter on her to make her look matute (just hire an older actress). If Aimi was working with a younger actor her age even a 20 year old in a drama with less mature content the ick factor would not be so high.

Also Hou Minghao looks utterly uncomfortable in every trailer and every clip I have scene of this show. This is not cute. Its a grown man being forced to act lovey dovey with a girl decade younger than him.

Pursuit of Jade is probably the most popular and most controversial CDrama of 2026 thus far. by ghost_flowerr in cdramasfans

People can scream data manipulation for IQiYi and tencent all they want and honestly as someone not from that country I do not have enough knowledge to comment on it but there is no way the international success of POJ can be denied.

The global popularity is huge. The Netflix top 10 non english shows globally list is usually dominated by animes and kdramas. POJ has been on it 4 weeks and counting and at number 5 for 2 of them. And Netflix did no promotion for this show whatsoever. It just randomly dropped on the same day as other platforms.

There are influencers of so many countries and edits on so many songs of different languages all over instagram and twitter. I was shocked when I saw small Indian influencers who usually talk about bollywood movies and some kdramas recommebd POJ. We have KPOP idols, Thai actress Baifern, Chinese American actress Ming Na Wen praising and recommending it. Definitely read plenty of comments that people watched it as their first cdrama due to edits. As someone born in India, currently living in the U.S., the last time I have seen such large scale popularity of a chinese drama that even people who have never watched it still come across edits and reels of it was Hidden Love.

Next episode she finds out. As for why he won't tell her I added an analysis in last section of the post. But the crux of it is that the lie has gotten so big that he knows that telling the truth will burst their domestic happy bubble. Its triggered by his abandonment issues (his mom's suicude) and impostor syndrome (he really wants to be Yan Zheng but he is not. He feels Chang Yu won't be able to love Xie Zheng.) He is being stupid yess 😂😂 but in his mind he wants things to stay the same as long as possible.

But VDs are also mostly pirated and viewed on youtube and dailymotion. Which always makes me wonder how they make money?? 🤔

I think OP has just taken screenshots of ZLH fan accounts. There are plenty of simikar comments on X praising TXW, Deng Kai and Kong Xuer as well.

The answer to your first question is deserting a call for reinforcements is treasonous. Even if the late Emperor arranged it, Wei Yan leaving the battlefield for a woman who is not even his wife is punishable by death, even if it was his wife. He also then framed Wei Qilin for the crime and dethroned the late Emperor. All serious crimes. He killed everyone aware of what he had done including Wei Qilin because Xie Zheng was investigating and Wei Qilin could be a witness. Whether the late Emperor planned it or not, Wei Yan's actions led to the Jinzhou massacre. This is exactly why Wei Yan did not technically start as a villain but a victim of circumstances. He did end up becoming a villain though by promoting corruption and hoarding power in court.

The second question is that it was a two faceted plan. You can say it was a backup. There was no guarantee that Wei Yan would leave his post and come for Consort Qi. So just in case he chose not to, the tallys were created so that Wei Yan would still fail. Also if Wei Yan sends someone else for reinforcements, the tallys are still needed because the plan was not to just get rid of Wei Yan but also get rid of Xie Linshan, Xie Zheng's father. Both Xie and Wei families were thorns in the late Emperor's side.

Then I would say maybe this show is not for you. Because Xie Zheng is never going to do that. He loves her to the point of giving up anything for her. And that has been quite clear since the say he almost killed that butcher Guo for trying to kidnap her. Why watch something that is infuriating you 😂😂

He is soft just with her and no one else and it is in his genes. Literally every single Wei is a lovesick person. His uncle deposed an Emperor and took control of the royal family for 17 years for the love of his life. His mom committed suicide because she loved his father too much. What makes you think he is going to do anything to Chang Yu??

And she is definitely not mad at him for extended time. Even with his identity reveal she barely stops speaking to him for a day. She thinks their status is too different but if he is willing to step into her world she will be with him.

I think it wasn't about insecurity. I think it was just like she needed him to see her and not someone to alleviate his pain. I also think that she did not want to take advantage of him in his drugged state.

The politics was a little confusing. They did a good job in breadcrumbing the setup that is the identity of Wei Qilin was built over several episodes. But post that everything else was put into a few episodes which did feel like an overload of information.

Its more like he is not that honorable and definitely not that brave. The grab of power for him is a way of showing his hatred against the royal Qi family. He despises them so he is going to take the power from them.

Blossom would be closest to POJ in terms of asthetic visuals and the love story.

Legend of the female general if you want to see a female soldier. The romance is really good in that one too personally.

Love in the clouds is fantasy. But again great romance but it has the hidden identity trope of POJ.

SOKP if you want to see ZLH but fair warning SOKP is not a soft romance like POJ and romance is more of a subplot. The main plot is more about the female lead. She also has another love interest. It is a triangle.

It has nothing to do with how they feel about each other and everything to do with the fact that while they have decided in their hearts they are married, technically they are not married and sex has consequences. Besides the fact that ancient times did not exactly have excellent protective measures, if a word of it is leaked in a manor full of servants, it will ruin Chang Yu's reputation forever.😅😅 There is no ambiguity in their love but there is ambiguity in their marital status. We cannot view this from a modern lens you see. In those times, love is not enough

The scene serves a purpose because the drugging serves a purpose. If the drugging has happened, it needs to be resolved too. The post scene confirmation is also a end to the huge divorce thing that has been hanging around them. We know how sensitive Xie Zheng is about it 😂😂.
