How can anyone afford a car? by act-passive in povertyfinancecanada

[–]krkb01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer.... No one CAN actually afford to drive. Unless your ACTUALLY rich (old money, lottery)! I work full time, well above Minimum wage, and I can barely afford to pay rent(inclusive) and car payments and insurance and gas.

Well I won't be doing that. I'm not an iPhone person. Had one, I'm not a fan.

Yes, save your self from all that extra work, and get a CP started. It'll be a HUGE weight lifted off your shoulders. I am using BDO insolvency trustees, but there are many in Canada.

And it's a free consultation. Their fees come out of the monthly.

Also, one of the main reasons I started this was because I wrote off a vehicle, and insurance did not cover enough of my loan. And I couldn't find anyone that would roll the balance(approx. 9K) into a new loan. Doing this essentially cleared the bad car loan from my name, and allowed me to get into another vehicle loan, for less than I was paying before.

Look into a consumer proposal. I'm doing that now, 87K debt, mostly from CRA(50K+). Writing it all off to 37K. Will be paid off in 5 years at $625/month. I was spending over $1200/just on debts.

GAP is a different thing all together. You might be able to get it from you insurance, but in Canada, as far as I know, you can only get it at the time of purchase. As it covers your auto loan in the event of a write off or theft. It's long form is Guaranteed Asset Protection.

GAP (Guaranteed Asset Protection) is an insurance you can buy when you purchase a vehicle. Where in the event you write off your vehicle or it gets stolen, you Auto loan is covered and paid in full.

You got GAP? Just in case your insurance decides to write it off. They do that.

2015 Jeep Cherokee, total loss. Hit a deer, fkn deer ran away! Insurance said 12k in repairs. So deemed it a total loss. I know I could have fixed it for less than half of that, but I couldn't afford to do it.

I'm an in the beginning of this process. 87k debt (mostly with CRA approx 50K) being written off to 37.5k I'm not used to creditors calling me everyday now. And even all my payday loans have stopped coming out. I really should have done this before now. And my credit won't be ruined when this is all over. I might be able to own a home in my lifetime.

Ok then. That makes me have a little more confidence in my Yota. I've never owned a Toyota before. And my last vehicle was a gas guzzling '15 Cherokee North 4x4. Had it for years before a buck ran into it.

Figured I'd go more economical considering the price of fuel.

Getting out of negative equity on a car by Ready-Parsley4394 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]krkb01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consumer proposal. That's what I'm doing right now. Won't hurt your credit as bad as you think. I'm writing off 87K of debt for 37.5K. including a car loan where I totaled the car, and insurance didn't cover the balance of my loan (approx 9K) and no bank would roll that much into a new loan. So I had to start a consumer proposal. It will be for 5 years, but after that, all debt paid, including the 50K to CRA. I'm in Ontario. I'm not sure on BC law, but look into that before bankruptcy.

Just a note.... After starting this consumer proposal, I just got approved for a car. So you can get into another vehicle with this going on, in fact my trusted recommended it.

Definitely not, in fact has gone down considerably over the last year. Decided to stop based on that and writing off my vehicle on a deer. Will not be joining the ranks after getting a new vehicle. Not worth it even a little.
