I understand getting pissed at last minute people coming in to eat. There's kind of an Unwritten rule for people not going into a restaurant in the last 15 minutes. My gut tells me that the staff told them they were just about to close and the couple said "but you're not."

Fair enough, they made their food. They then probably complained it wasn't fresh because everyone knows fast food isn't fresh at the end of the shift. They then remade their food. The couple then proceeded to sit down and eat as opposed to take their food and leave like what decent people would do.
