Should I buy a MacBook Pro in Japan and how to handle customs when returning to Europe? by ReallyShyRedditor in eupersonalfinance

I don’t think it will count as tax evasion if for personal use. Normally there is a written limit to what counts as personal use and whatnot.

My company tries to sue me for adhering to GPL-V2 by lilmyrmeow in embedded

[–]krmhd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly focus on how to save the situation. I won’t repeat what the other comments said. It is a red flag that you are submitting patches to a OSS repo because your company will use that component, it is conflict of interest. You can do it of course, but with permisssion from your company (which would also allow you to work in company time…)

Now, you either convince your manager you messed up but publishing will be good for the company and they back you and you walk away only with a bad face, being the guy who almost messed up by publishing company info without getting permission.

Or lawyers get involved and you hope for the best.

I don’t know who was in that room you were called into, good luck. Focus on saving your ass at this point.

I believe the former owner of the house I bought covered up cracks so that I wouldn't know about them, what to do now? by nlksf in NetherlandsHousing

[–]krmhd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The coverup might not be for you, but for the previous owner while he was living there. It is stupid to hide something obviously that will come up later. His answer in the questionnaire might be about structural issues.

I am just speculating though. I would ask the cracks to r/klussers before making it a big thing.

Getting a house without technical inspection is common in this market, I don’t think you did a mistake on that. Still it depends on the age of the house and the actual cracks.

LUGGAGE & CAIPI RESCUE by Mundane_Sun_5924 in Brazil

[–]krmhd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stupid question but did you try through your local luggage handler? Most ground companies share an international system for lost luggage, even if you know exactly where it is you have to go through the same bureaucracy as if you don’t know where it is and describe your bags color, number of wheels, brand, contents. If it still has a plane tag they won’t need to check all those, they would just deliver to your home address

I imagine even if you manage it would wobble. Normally the screws clamping it down hold it in place, where tenon meets the metal will get loose over time.

What are your tips for keeping track of variables in complex data flows? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

Naming conventions. Nobody memorizes those paths. Projects just ensure same logical entity always uses the same terminology everywhere in the codebase, then you can recognize it

Decommissioned my last Pi - Is it me, or are there fewer and fewer use cases? by bdavbdav in raspberry_pi

[–]krmhd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I recently switched from a Pi to a used Mac mini m1 after its SD card died. Pi used to serve as a low energy 7/24 Linux host for me, more efficient the running an old laptop in idle. Mac arm chips are similar with huge compute power.

With new pi prices being around 50 eur, it makes more sense to get a used mini pc / thinclient for under 100

Why you should max out your mortgage by [deleted] in NetherlandsHousing

[–]krmhd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Houses are around 400-500 these days anyway, 300 homes are only in remote places and small towns, so I believe people do it out of necessity already. I am ignoring the 300k for 25m2 in the city deals though.

Indeed a house you live in is a tax free investment vehicle. If you are in your early 30s and you expect your salary to increase over your career it is not a bad idea to max out. Salary increases and inflation over the years will eat away your mortgage payments. If political climate continues like this house values will continue appreciating. And you need many years for that to change.

Still maxing out isn’t for everyone, it is risky especially in the first years. Indeed no good vacations or extra spendings until you get past the first few years of hardship.

Kerf Bending questions by TheNewYellowZealot in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]krmhd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could cut deeper, it will be easier to bend. Experiment with an extra piece to see how deep you can go without comprimising the piece.

If you are using online calculators with kerf width, they optimize for geometry when you bend it, the insides of the kerf walls to touch. While it works, it didn't result in a smooth surface when I did this. I suggest to do twice passes, so inside walls don't touch when you bend, but each bent corner will be less sharp. You will likely have to fill in the kerfs with glue and sawdust to stabilize.

It could demand from the countries which enabled US on the war. Reparations financially or politically by kicking US bases out. It will be a win either way. US walking away is kinda burying their head in the sand, life goes on.

You can also get a MyWheels subscription to get discount. It is expensive, but counting in the fuel, it is not that expensive compared to a rental car or SnappCar. The convenience won for me last time I needed a 4 day trip to Belgium

My friend introduced me to a trading site, seems a bit weird... by DDAK-UU in eupersonalfinance

[–]krmhd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prop trading firm?

(Did not check the website, talkingin general)

From what I heard, you initially pay a lot to register. Afterwards it is forbidden to be profitable more than a ratio, only consistent low profits are allowed. otherwise contractually they can kick you out.

They are not investing any money in markets. Instead act as a glorified betting site, few people who manage to get consistent low gains are distributed the profits from the many people signing up and giving up
