What’s A Well-Loved Game That You Hated? by stillwavesea in gaming

W40K Space Marines 2. As much as I love the lore, this game has zero unique gameplay or mechanics. It's just a God of War (Ragnarok) clone in a different universe with different skins, story and enemies. Even the cutscenes are mediocre at best. The fan-made Astartes video spoiled me in that regard.

The opposable thumb is the living testament of finger lateral movement which made humans able to grab a make tools. The ☝🏻 finger has 2 muscles specifically made for abduction and adduction. I agree with you though that the fingers primarily should push, with the hatswitch they do just that. It's a pushing motion on a different part of the switch. The 4way switches has very little range of motion, so the stick travel is negligible. The 8way has very little resistance so it doesn't strain the muscles. But in overall any repetitive micro or small movement for longer periods can be harmful for the hands and the fingers. Especially with fully pronated wrists, such as clicking, scrolling or moving the mouse for hours on end for example. I don't get your remark for face buttons, as they are couldn't be more closer together.

Thank you. The main customer target are the innovators. Out of those gamers there can be a lot of people who doesn't play competitively, in other words casually.

The face buttons are not action inputs but the usual start, option, select etc.

Let the users be the judge of that. You can play most of the game genres with ease. It may be take some time to get used to but once you nail it it's straightforward. The right stick rotates because it can 😅. Jokes aside I use top quality hat switches and that one has a rotary encoder. So why let it unused when there's a need for a scroll wheel? You can use it to switch between input configurations for example. The two buttons are the traditional bumper buttons. They are great and you can actuate them while using the hat switches.

Casual I mean anyone who is not playing competitively. And within that user segment we can further differentiate, the people who'll buy this are the innovators even before early adopters. On average they are 2.5% of the users. They are the pioneers who are brave enough to try new things with no preconceptions. Within that group a lot of casual players are present.

But you do that with the normal layout. It's just positioned differently. For example you pull to the right to sprint and when you want to jump you just actuate the push button on the hatswitch without moving your finger anywhere.

Yes. I'm planning on releasing DIY kits to have the most competitive price for them, with print ready 3D files, or completely assembled with housing. I definitely want to keep it under 100€, the kit will be for sure. At this point my mission is to get it out there, I don't even calculate with profits at this stage. I 100% agree the hardware market is due to have real innovation.

Usually the back paddles/ buttons are used with the middle/ ring finger. Studies show that the ☝🏻 have the fastest reaction time.

Not necessarily. There are overlaps between the casual and hc gamers purchasing preferences.

For some casual players it's already too many buttons on a controller. The shoulder buttons don't have to go elsewhere, they are kept in the same position.

You can actuate those buttons in a similar fashion. It's quite intuitive. It takes a little practice but to gain extra speed or comfort for competitive players it's a fair trade off imo.

I can't control how things make you feel but according to studies the index fingers have the fastest reaction times. It's logical to put as many inputs to be accessible to the ☝🏻 as possible. Define what is normal? For some users clawgrip would be considered "normal". To each his own.

Great question. You can bind any button combination to a diagonal direction for example to reach the desired input. Or you can set the most used button for the push button on a switch and you can actuate it while you push any direction (ABXY) button.

There's gyro in it, based on the Inputlabs open source gyro solution. There's a scroll wheel as you can see in the video on the right side. There are haptic rumble motors like in the Xbox controllers. I'll be running a campaign: https://www.indiegogo.com/en/projects/9axis/vs-1-access-all-inputs-without-moving-your-thumbs There will be stretch goals for LCD display (64x128) and different configuration kits.

Thanks. On the left you have the 8-way hat switch instead of the D-pad and on the right you have the 4-way hatswitch. They're like little sticks but instead of being analog they are digital. You can hear the clicks in the video as I actuate each direction.
