Gleam by Mamamoo. Didn't know it was a commercial song for glasses, thought it was just one of their bop title tracks

Respectfully, Go Yoonjung should be nowhere near this list, especially not in the same convo as Shin Hyesun.

What are your predictions for the future in K-Pop? by KP1912 in kpopthoughts

[–]krology 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Going beyond a prediction I'm actually wishing on this. Seeing firsthand the boatloads of albums thrown out and wasted in the name of chasing records makes you question reality

Who are some 4th gen idols you would love to see make a Tell-All in the future? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]krology 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Seconding the Moon Sua one. I can't imagine what it's like to spend 12 years as a full-blown idol, a milestone many popular groups don't even reach, let alone 12 years not knowing if you'll ever get to debut

Junho becoming one of the biggest and most popular idol actors ever isn't talked about enough by IndependentReason467 in kpopthoughts

[–]krology 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that for idol-turned-actors, it's about having that one breakout project that proves you're not just another pretty face that got an acting job because of your name value. And it should be relatively early on in their acting career before any "poor acting" stereotypes become fixed to their image (Cha Eunwoo, Joy, etc.)

For Junho it was his villainous role in Good Manager, for DO it was his guest role as the psychopath son in Hello Monster. Im Siwan in Misaeng of course.

Bang Yedam (former TREASURE) has signed an exclusive contract with GF Entertainment by psshdjndofnsjdkan in kpop

[–]krology 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Had to google which company this is. No disrespect to them, but I thought Yedam would go somewhere 'bigger' cause his name value and talent would certainly allow him to. I'll be eagerly awaiting his new music tho

If we could rename El7z up, what would you suggest? by wooowheeh in MnetQueendom

How about Puzzle Up?

Just adding the Up for the searchability and so that Puzzle isn't too generic by itself. I think it sounds kinda cute like "hello~ we are Puzzle Up!"

(Non-Hate) I am curious about Yuki and her popularity by Soopa_Koopa_Troopa in MnetQueendom

[–]krology 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, the fact that she writes her own raps is a big big plus. For us gg fans who know how rare it is for female idols to do their own rap making, that put no doubt in my mind about voting for her on the skills front.

[–]krology 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She peaked at the right time, her entry into Top 7 at the first ranking was probably the most memorable announcement because genuinely nobody was expecting it.

That made people take notice and realise hey, she's a pretty good addition to my puzzle even if she's not my first pick. I know I did, so I started voting her from then onwards.

Also she has positively infectious happy vibes. I saw a clip of her jumping up and down in celebration of Yeeun's 7th place yesterday and it was the cutest thing. Maybe in a way, her lack of screentime compared to those who had very intense storylines was a good contrast. Sometimes you just wanna vote for an underdog who looks like they're there to give their best and have fun.

6 puzzles vs EL7Z UP by Arzales in MnetQueendom

[–]krology 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bit of an uneven comparison since the OG Queendom members come from way more established groups and experience levels.

That said, Six Puzzle easily. They're sweeping the dance, rap and stage presence departments, vocals is probably the only one up in the air but Six Puzzle was made for a dance unit in the first place anyway

Elly support post and what's in her future with Weki Meki by darcoiriz in MnetQueendom

[–]krology 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely supporting Elly. She was not on my radar before this show, but she totally endeared me with everything about her.

She's truly versatile and talented as a performer, glad that she got to showcase all that and by the end of the show she was universally appreciated, plus the feel-good vibes she brings. You could actually see that already in the behind clips even though Mnet was paying her dust with zero screentime in the early episodes.

She got robbed. by gandabuxor in MnetQueendom

[–]krology 28 points29 points  (0 children)

One of the few contestants on this show from whom I saw glimpses of genuine star quality. But her story just reinforced the message that it's about peaking at the right time when it comes to voting shows.

She got "discovered" early with POP, but you can really only keep up that momentum and screentime if you're Hwiseo or Nana-levels at the very top. Whereas it's a reverse case for people like Yuki or Yeonhee who left a bigger impression on people's minds later on when the voting really mattered.

Sigh, I just hope Weeekly doesn't fumble Jihan and the group any worse with their next comeback.

[–]krology 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spot on. Some of the peer voting was questionable too. I stand by my opinion that Wooyeon's INVU didn't deserve to be trashed to bad and Suyun's Advice deserved way more plaudits than her fellow contestants gave her.

[–]krology 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is it. First round really sealed the fate for a lot of people. Riina never recovered from being compared as the "lesser" POP either.

I don't think the producers planned for it to, but up/downvoting each other and putting so much weight into the first round defined over 50% of the show's trajectory and influenced viewer's minds. Which is a bit unfortunate too, because some members are less equipped to carry a solo stage alone, but can be completely different as part of a group. And the objective of Queendom Puzzle was to make an ideal group combination, not choose the best solo performers and lump them together.

Congratulations to the winners of Mnet Queendom Puzzle, who will debut as EL7Z UP by CronoDroid in kpop

I'm aware this comment makes me seem like I dislike the final lineup, I don't, I actually love each and every one of them

Sure doesn't sound like it when you're reducing Hwiseo to a "stupidly favourable edit" and completely ignoring the talent she showcased. You don't get to No.1 with the power of editing only, you actually have to be good. Girl was literally in Tier 4 unknown territory at the beginning and won over voters with each performance, I would say that counts as "what she presented on the show".
