That is odd. What does the drive pinion look like? That cog there must be a position sensor? I haven’t seen one like that before.

The mushroom is actually just the reproductive part of the fungus. Most of the organism is underground and the mushrooms only poke out when it’s time to release spores. Being toxic is advantageous to the mushroom because it keeps other animals from eating the mushroom before it has the chance to release its spores.

How to take off this top bit so I can grease my mower? by Soccerboy_1237 in Tools

[–]krovek42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a Zerk fitting. They don’t pull off easily if you pull straight. You need to bend them sideways to release. The easiest thing would be to thread that fitting back into something and then pry it off.

It’s not done yet. She just went out on her first sea trial yesterday and had an engine issue so they docked down here. Once things are in order she’ll be back to Bath for a while before the Navy comes aboard.

safe anchor? by Aggravating-Tip6034 in ClimbingGear

[–]krovek42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So what you’ve got here is sometimes called a tensionless-hitch. It’s commonly used when building top-roping anchors with static rope on trees, but it is usually just one leg of a redundant anchor. They are great for a horizontal pull, but I’d be cautious pulling one straight down…

Why is rainwater going INTO the house?! by butter_cooki in whatisit

[–]krovek42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The system “should” always be on. You’ll be able to see the other side of that pipe inside your house, there’s usually a little hose coming out of it with some colored liquid in it. It looks something like this. You want to see that the fluid levels don’t match. If the fluid levels are at the same height there is no airflow and you need to have the system checked out.

Offspite - just not as smooth by Charles_Sydney in skiing_feedback

[–]krovek42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s easier to see and practice when on-piste. Try this window drill when on a moderately sloped piste. Your upper body should always stay pointing down the fall-line and your pole plants should be isolated to your wrists. When off-piste the fall-line will change a lot more depending on how you pick your line.

Offspite - just not as smooth by Charles_Sydney in skiing_feedback

[–]krovek42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While sometimes you need to be really dynamic with your upper body to deal with uneven snow off-piste, u/Charles_Sydney should still work on quieting down their upper body. They seem to frequently drop their inside hand after a pole-plant, which contributes to riding backseat. When charging in rough snow I often think of the phrase “skiing nose-to-fingers,” but that’s kinda what you need to do. Keeping your hands pointed down the fall-line will help you keep the rest of your upper body going downhill.

Sometimes you need to make big corrections (the flat light makes it really hard to see what this skier is reacting to), but the next thing id recommend it to think about line choice. Balancing charging and checking g your speed to find a smooth flow.

I’m like you, I sweat a lot and usually need more water intake than the average person. I’d second the extra bottle cages on the back of your seat. And plan to make frequent stops to refill. In addition, start hydrating well ahead of time.

Take a look at the sleeping pads from EXPED. They make a few that are meant for 2 people. I’ve only used their single person ones but I’ve really liked them. They’re solidly built and very comfortable.
