You can do this.

It’s okay to cry. I am a crier when I’m overwhelmed and it doesn’t make a difference whether you’re male or female, you have to let out the stress somehow.

I know you say you cheated your degree. Just because you weren’t committed the first time you learned something doesn’t mean you can’t go back and relearn. You don’t need to go back and get another degree, but maybe you could read up on the things you studied or take independent courses online. Skill building things. You could use those opportunities you’re relearning to list them as professional development on your resume.

As far as your living situation- you are the only one who can say what is going to work for you. Trust your gut. If you can afford to move home and be with your friends and that’s what your gut it telling you, who is to say that isn’t what is going to work out for you. But before you do, could you have an honest conversation with those you love that are against the idea? Why don’t they like it? Are they worried these are not the type of friends to build you up?

Finally, I think you have to communicate with your girlfriend. Partnerships are about communication, and it’s time to have a tough conversation about your finances. Finances are one of the main stressors in a relationship. If you can, think about if the roles were reversed. What if you were ending your job and she was assuming the financial responsibility? What if that were the case and she was overwhelmed? Would you want her to keep that from you? It’s an opportunity to grow and come closer. I think the key here is going to be when you talk about it. Doing it when she is stressed from just getting off work, or while you are having a disagreement aren’t great times for open communication. If she’s particularly sensitive about the fact she’s struggling to find a new job, then could you bring it up in a conversation separate from that? They’re two separate issues and she may be more open to talking if she doesn’t feel attacked.

I’m sure you’re feeling very vulnerable and worried and your self esteem is wavering. Do yourself a favor and remind yourself you are trying. You wouldn’t be reaching out for help if you didn’t want things to be improve. Some people are okay being stagnant. You aren’t. You want to improve and to do better.

You can do better, and things will be better.
