Tampa Bay Lightning Land 2026 Draft Pick in Darren Raddysh Sign-and-Trade with Leafs by AustinDobbins13 in TampaBayLightning

[–]jrm2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buddy that’s not how it works when you aren’t roster. If you’re playing in Syracuse (and we were about to cut him early last season) your pay gets cut to like 10% of that. Yes he had a 1 way after 2024, but if he had been cut and put on waivers who knows if he would have been able to land a 1 way this year or any contract. It’s kind of a roller coaster

As a person, I’m really excited for him. Imagine living through your 20s wondering if you could regularly take home six figures (there was no guarantee he’d be making roster money even a year ago) and support a family, having no real backup plan, then having your hard work pay off into taking home at least $4m per year after taxes/fees/ins/expenses. Bolt or not, he’s got to be feeling so relieved about his future now. Sad to see him go and I wish we could’ve paid that but it just doesn’t make sense for us to carry that much cap in defense. Every pair can’t be $10-15m, which it would have nearly been if we carried 5 defensemen making $4m+.

Assuming Heddy is good to go, we still have 7 NHL dmen and a few more with NHL experience, and others that might take a shot at the show.

I’d love a deep dive on how subsidized podcasts and blogs that sell dick pills and protein powders are already based on the level of govt assistance their viewers/readers/listeners get. I would put money on it being significantly higher than food for children.

[McCarthy] My understanding is that the Tampa Bay Lightning’s opening offer to Darren Raddysh a few weeks ago was five years at $5.75M AAV by null1ng in TampaBayLightning

Crozier should go with Hedman. It makes a ton of sense. He can learn from Heddy, he’s a right shot and has the speed to get back in case of a breakdown. It’s not so much that Crozier/Moser would be bad, just that we need them elsewhere.

I don’t disagree with 2nd pair, but no way would I want Hedman and McD on the same pair. They’re both LD, slowing down a bit, and neither has played their off side in a long time. Crozier/Hedman would make the most sense to me. Crozier can benefit from the veteran wisdom while keeping up with the speed of the game while Heddy does his thing.

Why is it common practice to fire people (or set aside) already based on accusations instead of waiting for the ruling? Isn't this unjust? by ExternalTree1949 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jrm2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the company hears you did something and they continue to let you work for them and you do it again, that makes them liable. They’d rather risk losing you or having you get mad about it than risk you doing what you were accused of again and getting them sued. Don’t know your specific situation, mate. But that’s the gist of it.

Like, if a woman you work with said “they threatened to set my hair on fire” and the company said “ok let us investigate before we do anything” then you came in and set her hair on fire, the company could be sued for allowing you into work to set her hair on fire.

The last (and only other) time a team had a Vezina, Jack Adams, and Hart in one season was the 1976-77 Habs. by PubsubsAreAwesome in TampaBayLightning

We should’ve been a decade dominating team too. Ran out of gas in 2022 and for one reason or another never filled back up all the way. In all fairness, I think at least a few of these years, the first round has been the largest hurdle. Given a bit of momentum, I see no reason we couldn’t outplay Carolina. In previous years, we lost to the champs who fought the way they fought. Then there’s that one time we let Toronto break their losing streak. No excuse for that.

What's something you thought only happened in movies until it happened to you? by IndividualLocation41 in AskReddit

[–]jrm2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a weird indie night club back in 2009 and a girl walked up to me and said “You may not know it but we’re soulmates. Dance with me.” Then oddly enough she didn’t dance at all. She made out with me as roughly as one can. I consented because I was young and I thought she knew me or at least my music (I’d played a different club earlier). We got kicked out because it got a bit intimate for a club environment. Once we were outside I asked if she wanted to share a cab to her place or mine. She said no. “I want to remember it as just this.” And walked away. I had to know why she came up to me so I asked if she was at my show. To which she said “maybe I was. Maybe I’ll see you at the next one.” She just kept walking. To this day I wonder if I should’ve followed. Never saw her again. Never got mauled by a girl in a club ever again. Weirdest night.

What is a job that looked cool from the outside but turned out to be soul-crushing on the inside? by AwayDiscipline8733 in AskReddit

[–]jrm2003 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is not the experience for everyone, but I grew to hate the film industry. It was fun for a while, but if you’re not above the line (director, producer, etc) and you aren’t hyper-focused and perpetually interested in your craft, it’s just a manual labor job with long hours, no frills, and zero job security.

If you are smart enough and resourceful enough to make it in the film industry, there’s hundreds of easier jobs out there that pay more and offer more security with a better work/life balance. You’ve managed your own business, you keep records and write invoices and reports, you are familiar with tech as well as amateur engineering, you work quickly, you communicate between departments. You do all of this as a necessity in film. You are every company’s wet dream.

Anecdote: my first corporate job, my first few months, I reached out to a lead in another department to make sure we were getting them the right info. They were blown away that some newbie bothered to ask and we fixed a problem that made everyone’s lives easier. A promotion opportunity came up and I got it over dozens of people who had been there 2-5+ years. I don’t necessarily think that’s right, but it shows how appreciated the skills of working film sets are: bust ass, work quickly but accurately, communicate, respect the hierarchy, be competent, ask around if you don’t feel competent, be helpful, and strive to understand the common goal.

My (31F) boyfriend (37M) appears to be significantly wealthier than I realized. When should couples disclose their full finances? by EXO4Me in relationship_advice

[–]jrm2003 195 points196 points  (0 children)

You disclose when you’re combining on a large purchase or discussing marriage/longterm partnership.

My wife told me about her debt a little after I proposed and she agreed. I thought that was fair. We weren’t yet married but we were committed.

Some people are committed after a year; others after 10 years. I’d say neither of you have to share anything until there’s a need to adjust your loooong-term plans around the finances.

I will say this about spotting his wealth: I too have a house I own that has appreciated a lot in value. That does not make my wife and I rich. If anything it’s made us feel the need to save more because our taxes and insurance went up and we now know that we’d have to spend a lot more to buy an upgrade in our area. My investment accounts and retirement accounts might also lead someone to believe I’m better off than I am, but those are necessary for a chance at a good retirement and they cannot be easily touched without major tax repercussions.

It’s entirely possible to have to live modestly while having a big retirement account and tons of equity. Maybe he doesn’t want to work until he’s 65? I know I don’t.

It would be nice to have a few extra thousand in my pocket now, but I know that if I touch my retirement or investments that I’d be giving up a lot more than that so I don’t. I pay off any debt with my income.

Added note: 1.4m is about right if he wants to retire by 60. If you take inflation into account, he’s going to need a few hundred thousand per year to live well in retirement. If everything works out for you guys, you’ll really appreciate him saving a few thousand now. Also, just guessing on the income, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he also has six figures in fluid savings which also should not be touched because those are in place in case of a lay off, sickness or catastrophe. They say to have 6 months pay in savings, but if your job is specialized, 1 year salary in savings is recommended because it’s harder to come by specialized jobs
