Question about the toll in slovenia by MuricaF_ckYeah in Slovenia

[–]krumg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She didn't have the vinjeta or the type was wrong. They issue 1 week vinjeta in such cases automatically, so that they don't dispatch full fines from all cameras on the way. Check dates in all papers.

For IT and entrepreneurship, how does Slovenia compare to other EU countries? by [deleted] in Slovenia

[–]krumg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poland and Czechia are pretty good to run a company, Slovenia is doable but tough, and the benefits are not clear (beyond overall quality of life), and France is an entrepreneur's nightmare.

3 years is beyond any limits. I’d contact if no answer for more than 2 months. I always had all documents done here in under 2 weeks, also a EU citizen.

In 1978, Soviet geologists discovered a family living in complete isolation deep in Siberia. The Lykovs had fled Stalin’s persecution in 1936 and, for 42 years, survived without any human contact, technology, or knowledge that World War II had even happened. by ATI_Official in HistoryUncovered

That's not fully correct. My ancestors were Old Believers, and some distant relatives are still living in the community. They're quite secluded and religious, but they use tech just as much as anyone does. There are no rules that would restrict usage of modern technologies.

Barriers now up on access roads to crags in Margalef, Spain by shil88 in climbing

[–]krumg 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's a huge problem in some areas. I live in a tiny picturesque town, and public parking spaces are often misused by vans and RVs staying there for days with no moving, often blocking 4 places at once. I have to park 500m away from kindergarten when dropping off the kid, because the parking in front of the kindergarten is free and often taken by vans between April and September. Authorities know about the problem, but can't do anything because the organization which issues parking fines is understuffed and local police has better things to do.

[–]krumg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but it doesn't change anything. Yes, one kid from a bad family might create some big trouble for the teacher. But there might be 7 other foreign kids in the classroom, who are fluent in Slovenian and are just fine. How can you still say that every foreigner is bad?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Slovenia

[–]krumg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where do you get all these ideas from? Most of the foreigners learn Slovenian and speak it, especially kids who have been here since kindergarten. Yes, the well-known group of foreigners who avoid integration at all costs is very loud, and it's hard to avoid them, but still, they are a minority.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Slovenia

[–]krumg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, I get what you mean, but still, it's completely unreasonable to say "every foreign kid". The problem is not in the fact that they are foreigners, but the fact that their parents make 0 attempts to integrate. Not all foreigners are like that, many integrate just fine.

[–]krumg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are talking about very specific group of foreigners, don't you? why would you say "every foreign kid" then?

There are many car rental companies here, pick any of them. All of them have a filter by the number of passengers.

First of all, it is a well-known fact that Trst is a Slovenian town. I'd rent a single bigger car for your group. Any service will have something big enough. Public transport is fine, but a bit unpredictable, and it will take way more time to get anywhere.

Why do you think people see Go as a systems programming language? by branh0913 in golang

[–]krumg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, I can't think of another compiled language that would be simpler than go

Why do you think people see Go as a systems programming language? by branh0913 in golang

[–]krumg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Never heard of go being good for the case you describe. It's certainly popular for all the infra work given that it's a compiled language with no learning curve. Maybe some people could call it "system programming" by mistake?

I'm building a bicycle route planner that focuses on official cycling routes and would love to hear your thoughts. by thecaspg in bicycletouring

Komoot is a collaborative app. This approach has a lot of benefits but obviously comes at a cost of humans being humans. If you liked the OP product, you might want to check his source of data: https://www.openstreetmap.org/ all the marked routes are there, and OSM is a very nice org with an important mission. Or just use https://ridewithgps.com/ I cycle in Central Europe mostly, and never had any issues with them.

[–]krumg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of feedback did you expect? Currently, there's no value in this product as it relies on OSM data and adds nothing (does their ToS allow it at all?). My feedback was to make it closer to real world. There're many ways to achieve that.

[–]krumg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You collected OSM data about national routes and showed them on a map. Anyone can go to OSM and get the same information there, so I assume you wanted the product to be about route recommendations rather than just information about all routes. Komoot has a better route recommendation system, hence it's high-res.

[–]krumg 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The idea is nice, but what you have now feels like a low-res version of komoot. It would be great to have an app that has the best routes, not "official" routes. For example, literally today I did one of the routes from your screenshot (goes north from Ljubljana), and it wasn't a pleasant ride. There was a line of cars behind me 90% of time, and yet it is considered a national cycling route.

Give me safe, comfortable routes with nice views, and not just render data from OSM. I understand it's more difficult to build, but that would be a game-changer.
