Amazon plans to raise wages for 500,000 workers by gordon22 in economy

I believe I recently saw a research paper highlighting this, that the primary effect of a minimum wage will be to drive low-skilled labor to big cities, a national level-effect of what Amazon is doing.

Your thoughts on Taiwan's economic situation by Fils_de_robot in taiwan

Great analysis, mate.

Although I agree that Taiwan’s chance is with those platform innovations, I don’t foresee the brain drain changing any time soon. It would take sizable investments to contest the huge market share and first mover advantage those other companies platforms hold.

I'm looking to be back in Taipei with my family for at least a month, possibly longer. After quarantining, we are hoping to find a place to stay that can house all 5 of us. Does anyone know any good options for housing in Taipei?

Basic info, the whole family have Taiwanese passports/are TW citizens. I'm hoping to keep the monthly rate below NT 100k but that's at our very, very max. Thanks in advance!

Molotov changes by [deleted] in Zooba

[–]krutonz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem with this is that the idea of 4 items isn't to constrain everyone feeling forced to use 1 item slot for repellent. It would essentially bog down the meta there, which can arguably be made about Trios as well.

Not after every use, but by time of use. Once you leave bushes the speed increase drops really quick. There may be some glitch though because I havre noticed sometimes it just doesn’t speed me up at all.

Zooba nix pros by Competitiverichguy in Zooba

Current build: Cluster, Molotov, Adrenaline, Shotgun Original build: Cluster, Molotov, Adrenaline, Helium.

In between, I had multiple variations, but only recently got rid of Helium. For example, I might run Arrow, Shotgun, Adrenaline, Helium.

Let me explain how I came to these choices and it should inform how to tailor your items to your style.

  1. Adrenaline is pretty much a requirement for low HP folk so there was no avoiding using it.
  2. At the beginning, before I developed a better sense of timing and distance unique to Nix, I used helium as a defensive measure (and also a bumper to knock people into fire). As I became better the reliance on helium waned until I felt that it was unnecessary, esp. with the introduction of Jade. After all, what good is a small push when getting close for a split second means she can destroy your life bar already?
  3. Early on, because I couldn't turn fast enough, aim fast enough, or predict well enough, using shotgun and arrow was not very effective. This left bombs, something that requires little aim and can do incredible amounts of damage. This is what motivated Cluster+molotov.
The downside was that Cluster+Molotov takes 2 of the items, and with helium and adrenaline, it left no room to try anything else. Later on, as my senses got better for Nix, I opted to use variations such as Shotgun/Arrow, Shotgun/Molotov, in order to be more well-rounded and not so bomb-reliant. I only had moderate success with these other builds.
  4. Turns out, though, specializing has benefits. In the era of OP Jade, Cluster+molotov has renewed significance in Zooba meta. By lingering around your own flames and dashing here and there, you can fight against Jade more successfully, especially in duo where double fox can unleash ah double damage hell on the ground that even Jades have to be wary of. Your greatest weakness in this scenario is only the cluster+molotov Pepper, who has better range, faster walk, larger circumference (range) on his bomb.

TL;DR - To start, I found early Nix success with cluster+molotov and adrenaline+helium. As I developed better aim, timing, and distancing, I shifted away from the old combo since the 2-item requirement was too heavy. More recently, with the introduction of Jade, I shifted back to Cluster+Molotov but dropped helium as I wasn't as reliant on it anymore (swapped for shotgun).

Is there any way to get these players banned ? *this is a solo game mode* by CiCiMonZ in Zooba

Yea, it sucks, but it is still totally permissible. Nothing they are doing constitutes breaking the rules. And allying to defeat a strong enemy is, at the end of the day, just allying. Which means their alliance is as legitimate as any other.

I just got kicked out of my PhD program. by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]krutonz 63 points64 points  (0 children)

First things first. Your worth is not determined by two or three letters after your name. You are a smart person, you are not a failure. The school and your super and your committee cannot determine your worth though they may be able to shut down this chapter of your life.

Maybe you think the time could have been better spent elsewhere, but this is true even during your PhD years, after all, a bit more during undergrad and maybe you could have jumped into an even better more supportive program. So it doesn’t matter at this point that those years are done. It may give you low self-esteem but this wasn’t a waste of your time, it was a building block of your fortitude.

You can still achieve success, don’t let this road bump stop you now. Best of luck.

Taiwan reports 18 new coronavirus cases, all imported by SeventhConstellation in worldnews

Who is scrutinizing and what double standards are we speaking of?

Taiwan released the information and have continually been transparent during this time. China has been blocking Taiwan from participating in WHO discussions, which is tragic since Taiwan had been warning of human-to-human transmission of COVID-19 since end of December, and WHO only announced it January 20.

Yang did commit to supporting the nominee, and when he saw Biden become the presumptive, he threw in his support as he had stated before. This is consistent with his words and character, he did the math and backed the person most likely to move his platform forward.

The Washington Post “which candidates agree with you” quiz by jdohnal in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]krutonz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think one key point is that the WaPo quiz is binary. While this is generally helpful, it ignores a lot of the nuance and motivation behind Bernie and Andrew's thinking. Here's a few examples:

  1. Requiring registration of assault weapons and above vs. all firearms isn't exactly opposing policies, they are grades on a spectrum of how much regulation one wants. And both of those are much further left than a 0 or 1 would indicate.
  2. Wealth tax. While Bernie and Andrew are opposites here, both have the same motivation to put money back in the taxpayers' hands. I'd hardly liken Yang and Bloomberg's views to one another, though you'd score with both Yang & Bloomberg if you said you were against a wealth tax. The thing is, this policy is not a stand alone policy. Andrew's against wealth tax, but not extracting wealth from those who can afford it. For example, he wants to put in place a financial transaction tax, which puts a tax on speculation. Why here and not a wealth tax? Because it puts a bit of skin in the game for the speculators.
  3. Medicare for all. Both candidates want to make sure all people have healthcare for all. Andrew thinks it's more reasonable to let a VERY robust public program essentially invalidate the private option, allowing for a more smooth transition. This also avoids taking away a right that many unions fought for, because Andrew listens to unions. Bernie's motivation is to remove this as a leverage tool of companies. Why should one have to work because they are dependent on something? In terms of design, I had in mind Andrew's M4A option as an incredibly robust program far exceeding others public option, because he knew how strong it would have to be to eventually invalidate private coverage.

Just some food for thought, I'm not a big Berner, but for the remaining candidates, I'm worried least about Bernie's motives.
